After the First Attack

The Weight of Decision Suppressing the News Brody agrees to keep the attack quiet. He knows it is wrong but feels pressured. Self-Loathing Brody begins to hate himself for compromising his duty. He feels like a coward. Foreshadowing He fears that more deaths will follow. His guilt grows.

After the Second Attack

Accusations Mrs. Kintner's Rage Mrs. Kintner confronts Brody, calling him a murderer. He cannot defend himself. Self-Blame Brody believes he is responsible for the boy's death. He should have closed the beaches. Determination Brody vows to kill the shark to atone. His guilt drives him forward.

After the Hunt

Redemption? Survival Brody survives the final battle. He has killed the shark, but the guilt remains. Ellen's Support Ellen helps him see that he did his best. He begins to forgive himself. Moving On Brody returns to his family. The guilt will always be there, but he learns to live with it.
