The Search for the Caldwells

The Search for the Caldwells Rahim Khan's Plan Rahim Khan told Amir that an American couple, John and Betty Caldwell, run a charity home for children in Peshawar. He said they would take Sohrab. After the rescue, Amir asks Farid to find them. The Disappointment Farid goes to the U.S. consulate and learns that no such couple ever existed in Peshawar. Rahim Khan either lied or was mistaken. Amir is devastated. He has promised Sohrab he will not send him to an orphanage, but now he has no other option. The New Plan Amir decides to take Sohrab to America himself. He contacts his wife Soraya, who is supportive. They begin the difficult process of adoption. The Caldwells' non-existence forces Amir to commit fully to adopting Sohrab, deepening his sense of responsibility and love for the boy.
