Wraith

Wraiths are among the most fearsome of the spectral creatures that march under the White Witch's banner in Narnia. They belong to the dark host she summons through her wolf messenger after the rescue of Edmund Pevensie, when she commands the gathering of "the Ghouls, and the Boggles, the Ogres and the Minotaurs" as well as "the Cruels, the Hags, the Spectres, and the people of the Toadstools." The Wraiths are listed alongside these horrors, forming part of the nightmare army that assembles around the Stone Table on the night of Aslan's sacrifice. They are present at the hilltop when the great Lion walks unarmed into the midst of his enemies, and they witness his shaving, mocking, binding, and killing at the Witch's hands. After the murder, the entire vile rabble—Wraiths included—sweeps off the hilltop and down the slope, passing directly by the hiding place of Susan and Lucy Pevensie, who feel the Spectres go by them "like a cold wind." The Wraiths later appear in the final battle at the Fords of Beruna, where they fight on the Witch's side against Aslan's army. When Aslan arrives with the liberated statues from the Witch's castle, his charge breaks the enemy line, and the Wraiths, along with the rest of the Witch's forces, are either killed, captured, or put to flight. Their presence underscores the supernatural terror of the Witch's reign and the cosmic stakes of the conflict, marking them as agents of a power that is both magical and malevolent. Though they are never individually named or described in detail, their inclusion in the Witch's host places them within the broader hierarchy of evil that Aslan's sacrifice and resurrection ultimately overthrow.
