The Municipal Power Plant is situated in the town, not far from the Industrial Canal. It is a dark, industrial area, described as being near a police call box. The fight takes place at night, under the light of the moon, which has men on it. The area is deserted, providing a suitable arena for the gang warfare that is a common feature of the night-time city.

The Gang Fight

Alex and his three droogs—Pete, Georgie, and Dim—come across Billyboy and his five droogs near the Municipal Power Plant. Billyboy's gang is in the process of preparing to assault a young girl, who is described as being no more than ten years old. Upon seeing Alex's gang, Billyboy's gang releases the girl, and the two groups engage in a fight. The battle is described as a serious affair, involving weapons such as knives (nozh), chains (oozy), and a cut-throat razor (britva). Alex uses his razor to slash one of Billyboy's droogs, opening him up like a peapod, while Dim uses his chain to blind another. The fight is intense and brutal, with Alex specifically targeting Billyboy, carving his face with his razor until blood pours down like red curtains.

Consequences and Aftermath

The fight is interrupted by the sound of police sirens, forcing both gangs to flee. The young girl who was about to be assaulted had likely alerted the police. Alex's gang escapes in one direction while Billyboy's gang flees towards the river, leaving one of their members, Number One Leo, unconscious on the ground. The fight serves to reinforce Alex's reputation and his role as the leader of his gang, demonstrating his skill and ruthlessness in combat. It also highlights the constant threat of police intervention in the violent world of the nadsats.
