House Falls on Nessarose
The Tornado
A tornado from Kansas transports Dorothy's house to Oz, where it lands on Nessarose, killing her instantly. Dorothy emerges confused but unharmed.
Meeting the Munchkinlanders
The Munchkinlanders thank Dorothy for freeing them from the Wicked Witch of the East. They direct her to the Emerald City to seek help from the Wizard.
Glinda's Gift
Glinda appears and gives Dorothy the silver shoes, which are enchanted to protect her. Dorothy begins her journey along the Yellow Brick Road.

Dorothy meets a Scarecrow who wants a brain. She helps him down from his pole, and he joins her quest.

The Cowardly Lion initially tries to scare them but admits his cowardice. He joins to seek courage from the Wizard.

The Throne Room
The Wizard appears as a giant floating head and agrees to help them only if they kill the Wicked Witch of the West. He sends them to the Vinkus.
Reluctant Mission
Dorothy is horrified but feels she has no choice. Her companions vow to protect her, and they set off for Kiamo Ko.
The Wizard's Deception
The Wizard's true nature is hidden. He hopes to eliminate the Witch and retrieve the silver shoes.

The Witch's Attacks
Elphaba sends her creatures—wolves, crows, bees, and winged monkeys—to stop Dorothy's group. Each attack is thwarted by the companions' unique abilities.
Dorothy's Plea
Dorothy finally meets Elphaba face to face. She apologizes for Nessarose's death and asks for forgiveness, but Elphaba is consumed by rage.
The Melting
In a struggle, Dorothy throws a bucket of water at Elphaba, causing her to melt away. The Witch's death is sudden and anticlimactic.

Return to the Emerald City
Proof of Death
Dorothy brings the green glass bottle as proof. The Wizard is shaken and tries to take the silver shoes, but they won't come off.
The Wizard's Escape
The Wizard realizes his time is up and escapes in his balloon, leaving Dorothy and her friends to face the consequences.
Dorothy's Homecoming
With Glinda's help, Dorothy uses the silver shoes to return to Kansas. The shoes fall off during the journey and are lost forever.
