The Casita del Príncipe, a secluded rural mansion situated approximately forty minutes outside Madrid, has served since the middle of the 1700s as the private residence for the heir to the Spanish throne. Role in the Night's Crisis

On the night of Edmond Kirsch's assassination, Bishop Valdespino ordered his acolyte to drive Prince Julián to the Casita del Príncipe, assuring the prince that retiring there would be far safer than remaining in the Royal Palace. Valdespino had already orchestrated the prince's isolation by having both men leave their phones locked in the palace safe, cutting Julián off from all communication with his security detail, his fiancée Ambra Vidal, and the outside world. The bishop's stated reason was that the prince needed to be insulated from the news and from potential danger, but his true intention was to keep Julián in the dark and under his control while the crisis unfolded.

Deception and the True Destination

Despite Valdespino's claim that the Casita del Príncipe was their destination, the bishop had no intention of taking Julián there. As the car approached the cottage's driveway, Valdespino revealed that the king had ordered them to a different location entirely. The prince, growing increasingly suspicious of the bishop's secrecy and his own enforced isolation, demanded the truth. When Valdespino finally admitted that the king had summoned them to El Escorial, Julián realized that the Casita had never been their true destination—it was merely a cover story to keep him compliant during the journey. The cottage thus functions as a symbol of the deception and manipulation that Valdespino employed to control the future king during the night's most critical hours.
