Vetch, a dark-skinned boy from Iffish, was Ged's first friend at Roke. He was plain, good-natured, and skilled in the lesser arts. He tried to mediate between Ged and Jasper.
The Gift of the True Name
When Vetch left Roke, he gave Ged the gift of his true name, Estarriol, and asked him to come to the East Reach. This act of trust restored Ged's hope.
