Co-Architect of the Revolution

Snowball is a vivacious, inventive pig who helps codify Animalism, organize the committees, and lead the rebellion. He is the main strategist of the Battle of the Cowshed and is awarded the first medal. He is passionate about education and innovation, and his vision for the windmill excites the animals.
The Windmill Debate

Snowball's detailed plans for the windmill win over the majority at the Sunday Meeting. He argues passionately for a future of leisure and prosperity. Napoleon opposes him, and the farm is divided. Snowball's popularity threatens Napoleon's power. The debate is the climax of their rivalry.
Violent Expulsion

Napoleon unleashes his nine dogs, who chase Snowball off the farm. Snowball barely escapes through a hedge. The animals are shocked and terrified. Napoleon declares Snowball a traitor and criminal. Snowball's exile is the end of open debate and the beginning of one-party rule.
The Scapegoat for All Misfortunes

Snowball is blamed for every problem: the storm-destroyed windmill, spoiled crops, broken tools. Napoleon claims to smell his footprints everywhere. The animals begin to believe Snowball is a supernatural menace. He becomes a convenient scapegoat, deflecting blame from the pigs' mismanagement.
The Demonization Complete

Squealer reveals that Snowball was Jones's secret agent from the start, that he fought for the humans at the Battle of the Cowshed, and that his wounds were inflicted by Napoleon. The animals' memories are altered. Snowball's heroism is erased, and he is transformed into the ultimate enemy. His name becomes a curse.
