A Vision of the Future Ralph remembers the vision Atropos showed him: a green Ford sedan hitting Natalie on Harris Avenue, with Helen watching in horror. The Accident on Harris Avenue

The Final Act The Green Ford Approaches Ralph sees Natalie walking down the sidewalk with Rosalie the beagle. Atropos is there, invisible to others, wearing Natalie's Red Sox cap. A green Ford driven by Pete Sullivan, the paperboy, approaches. Atropos slaps the dog, sending it into the street, and Pete swerves – directly toward Natalie. The Sacrifice Ralph runs forward, shoving Natalie out of the way. The Ford strikes him, throwing him into the air. He lands on the pavement, his body broken. But he feels no pain – only a sense of peace. He sees Clotho and Lachesis appear beside him, and they shake his hand one last time. The Final Words Lois reaches him and holds him. Ralph tells her that every day with her was like waking up young. He says the ticking has stopped. Then he dies, smiling.
