Morris Cater, a sixty-five-year-old jewelry wholesaler, is spending the weekend at the Abelard Arms Inn. He goes for a swim in the gentle surf.
The Attack
The shark strikes from behind, biting him repeatedly. He screams for help. Officer Len Hendricks, on the beach, wades in to rescue him but only pulls out a severed arm.
Death
Cater is pronounced dead on arrival at Southampton Hospital. The attack is witnessed by at least fifteen people.
