A Risky Plan
Hooper's Obsession
Hooper is determined to film the great white. He brings a shark cage and a bang stick. Quint and Brody are skeptical but allow it.
Entering the Cage
Hooper dons scuba gear and enters the cage. He descends a few feet. The shark appears and circles. Hooper touches it, mesmerized.
The Attack
The shark rams the cage, bending the bars. It bites Hooper, crushing his torso. He dies instantly. The shark swims away with his body.
Aftermath

Grief and Rage
Brody's Horror
Brody watches helplessly as Hooper is killed. He shoots at the shark but hits Hooper's body. Quint is furious.
Quint's Vow
Quint vows to kill the shark, no longer for money but for revenge. Brody agrees to continue the hunt.
Ellen's Reaction
Ellen Brody learns of Hooper's death. She cries, but her grief is complicated by guilt over their affair.
