Conflict with Baldini Hidden Genius Grenouille was the source of Baldini's success but was kept hidden and controlled. Conditions of Release Baldini imposed harsh conditions, but Grenouille accepted them to gain freedom. Baldini's Fear Baldini feared Grenouille's power and was relieved when he left.
