The Doctor's Proposition

Offred is taken to the doctor for her monthly medical exam. During the examination, the doctor offers to impregnate her himself, claiming that many Commanders are sterile. He suggests that she can have a baby this way without anyone knowing. Offred is tempted but ultimately refuses, fearing the death penalty if caught. The encounter highlights the desperation of the Handmaids and the corruption within the system. Offred is left shaken by the choice presented to her.
