The Gathering of the Goblin Army

The Mustering The Alliance Goblins from all over the Misty Mountains and beyond gather at Gundabad. They are led by Bolg, son of Azog. The March They march south, using tunnels and darkness to avoid detection. They arrive at the Lonely Mountain just as the siege begins. The Surprise The goblins catch the dwarves, men, and elves by surprise, uniting them against a common enemy.

The Battle and Defeat

The Climax The Attack The goblins attack with overwhelming numbers. They are savage and numerous. The Resistance The free peoples fight back. The arrival of the eagles and Beorn turns the tide. The Defeat Bolg is killed, and the goblins are routed. Many are slain. The goblins' revenge fails, and they are broken for many years.
