Venia is a member of Katniss Everdeen's prep team in the Capitol, a woman with aqua hair and gold tattoos above her eyebrows who specializes in removing body hair. She is part of the trio—along with Flavius and Octavia—that prepares Katniss for her public appearances, stripping her of her natural appearance and transforming her into a polished tribute. Though she appears frivolous and speaks in the affected Capitol accent, Venia is sincerely trying to help Katniss, and her work is a crucial step in the creation of the "girl on fire" image that captivates Panem.

Identity and Appearance

Venia is introduced as a woman with aqua hair and gold tattoos above her eyebrows, a look that marks her as a typical Capitol citizen given to extreme self-alteration. She speaks in the high-pitched, clipped Capitol accent that Katniss finds so grating, with odd vowels and a hiss on the letter "s." Along with Flavius, who has orange corkscrew locks and purple lipstick, and Octavia, a plump woman whose entire body has been dyed a pale shade of pea green, Venia forms the prep team assigned to Katniss. And yet, in an odd way, I know they're sincerely trying to help me." When Katniss returns to the Training Center after winning the Games, Venia, Flavius, and Octavia engulf her, talking so quickly and ecstatically that she cannot make out their words. Katniss is happy to see them, too, though she compares it to being glad to see "an affectionate trio of pets at the end of a particularly difficult day."
