The War in the North

The War in the North The Battle in Mirkwood Thranduil's Elves fight against the forces of Dol Guldur. The Elves eventually win, but the forest is damaged. The Battle in Dale King Brand and Dáin Ironfoot defend Erebor against the Easterlings. Both fall, but the mountain is held until news of Sauron's defeat arrives. The Siege of Lórien Lórien is attacked three times but repelled by the power of Galadriel and Celeborn. After Sauron's fall, they take Dol Guldur.

The Siege of Minas Tirith

The Siege of Minas Tirith The Arrival of the Nazgûl The Nazgûl cause terror as the city is surrounded. Denethor falls into despair, and Faramir is wounded. The Rohirrim's Arrival Théoden and the Rohirrim arrive at dawn, breaking the siege. The battle is fierce, but the Witch-king is killed. The City's Salvation Aragorn enters the city as a healer, and the people gain hope. The victory at the Pelennor is a turning point in the war.

The Destruction of the Ring

The Destruction of the Ring Frodo's Final Struggle At Mount Doom, Frodo claims the Ring for himself. Gollum attacks him, biting off his finger, and falls into the fire with the Ring. The Fall of Barad-dûr The Ring's destruction causes Sauron's power to collapse. Barad-dûr crumbles, the Nazgûl are destroyed, and the land of Mordor is overthrown. The End of the War With Sauron's defeat, the war ends. The Free Peoples rejoice, and the Fourth Age begins.
