The Hunt Begins

The Trackers Appear The Three Figures Kino sees three figures on the road: two on foot, one on horseback. They are trackers, as sensitive as hounds. The horseman carries a rifle. The Pursuit They follow Kino's trail. They are the instruments of the town's evil, sent to recover the pearl or kill Kino.

The Skilled Hunters

The Tracking The Signs They read the ground like experts. They find the swept place and study it. They are patient and methodical. The Horseman The horseman waits, dark and half disinterested. His work will come last. He will not take them back alive.

The Camp at the Pool

The Night Camp The Watcher At the pool, two trackers sleep while one watches. The watcher has a rifle. They are relaxed, confident. The Cigarette Glow Kino sees the glow of their cigarettes. They are unaware of his presence above them.

The Attack

Kino's Assault The Killing Kino kills the watcher with his knife, then shoots the other two. The trackers are eliminated. The Cost But Coyotito is killed by a stray bullet. The trackers have fulfilled their role: they have destroyed the family.

The Aftermath

The Bodies No Mourning The trackers are dead, but they are not mourned. They were tools of the system. Their fate is to die in the service of greed. The Symbol They represent the faceless evil that pursues Kino. Their deaths do not bring justice.
