The Lion's Coronation as King of Beasts

In a forest, the Lion proves his courage by killing a giant spider and is crowned the King of Beasts.

The Forest Meeting

The Animals' Council The Gathering After leaving the China Country, the travelers enter a great forest. They come to an opening where hundreds of wild animals are gathered. The animals are terrified of a giant spider monster. The Tiger's Plea The largest tiger explains that the monster has been eating them. They have called a meeting to decide what to do. The Lion offers to help. The Condition The Lion asks if he kills the spider, will they bow to him as King of the Forest? They agree. The Lion sets off to fight the monster.

The Spider's Lair

The Battle The Monster Asleep The Lion finds the giant spider asleep. It is hideous, with a body as big as an elephant, legs like tree trunks, and a neck as thin as a wasp's waist. The Lion's Attack The Lion leaps onto the monster's back. With one blow of his heavy paw, he knocks the spider's head off. The spider dies instantly. The Victory The Lion returns to the animals and announces that the enemy is dead. The animals bow to him as their King. He promises to return and rule after Dorothy is safely on her way to Kansas.

The Lion's Promise

The Future King The Journey Continues The Lion says goodbye to the animals and continues with Dorothy. He is proud and confident. He has proven his courage. The Return After Glinda helps Dorothy, the Lion is carried by the Winged Monkeys back to his forest. He takes his place as the King of Beasts, ruling wisely and bravely. The Fulfillment The Lion's quest for courage is over. He no longer doubts himself. He has become the true King of the Forest, both in name and in spirit.
