Captain Nemo's Bravery Captain Nemo stayed on the platform, lashed to the ship. He faced the storm head-on. The ship eventually submerged to find calm waters.

The Battle with the Giant Squid The Propeller Jammed A giant squid blocked the propeller. The Nautilus was forced to surface. The crew had to fight the monster on the deck. A Fearsome Fight Axes and harpoons were used. A sailor was killed. The battle was brutal. Finally, the squid were driven off, but a life was lost.

Shark Attack at Ceylon The Shark Approaches While diving, a huge shark attacked a native pearl diver. Captain Nemo intervened, fighting the shark with a knife. The water turned red with blood. Rescue Ned Land harpooned the shark. The captain was saved. The native was rescued and given a pearl. The conflict with nature was temporarily won.

The Coral Reefs of Torres Strait Running Aground The Nautilus struck a sharp coral reef. It was stuck fast. The ship was in danger of being wrecked. Waiting for the Tide Captain Nemo waited for the spring tide to float the ship off. They were vulnerable to attack from natives. The conflict was with the natural hazard of the reef.
