The Lost Continent of Atlantis Night Excursion Captain Nemo took Aronnax on a night underwater walk to a volcanic mountain. They climbed through a petrified forest, guided by the glow of a submarine volcano. The Ruins of Atlantis At the summit, they saw the ruins of an ancient city with temples, columns, and walls. Captain Nemo wrote "ATLANTIS" on a rock. Aronnax realized he was witnessing the legendary lost continent.

The Sargasso Sea A Sea of Weeds The Nautilus entered the Sargasso Sea, a vast area of floating seaweed. The current had accumulated debris from many wrecks. The ship moved slowly to avoid tangling its propeller. Abundant Life Despite the weeds, the sea teemed with life: jellyfish, crabs, and fish. Aronnax observed the unique ecosystem. The captain explained Maury's theory about the formation of this sea.
