Jungkook stops Shelby from drunken sex

At a student party at Maison Upsilon in Ellensburg, Jungkook Jeon interrupts an intimate advance from an intoxicated Shelby Anderson Barnum and refuses to let the moment proceed to sex. The episode turns attraction into a test of care: Jungkook wants her, but recognizes that her drunkenness prevents her from making a clear-headed choice. Instead of exploiting the opening, he stops, tends to her immediate needs, and protects her privacy. His restraint gives their developing relationship a practical expression of consent and trust.

Setting and Rising Distress

Shelby enters the party already at a disadvantage. At 22:35, surrounded by people on a crowded couch, she feels panic seize her and imagines the music growing louder, although its actual volume has not changed. She leaves the room and locks herself in an upstairs bathroom, trying to convince herself that she can withstand her fear of crowds and social situations. The effort is both an act of determination and a sign of how much the gathering is testing her.

Jungkook meets her as she comes out. Shelby asks him to stay with her, and he agrees. Back downstairs, he takes her hand and strokes its back when he feels her tense beside him. With only one chair free, he sits and draws her onto his lap, keeping her close and rubbing her back until she relaxes. The gesture is conspicuous enough to draw curious looks: it differs from the casual sexual pattern associated with Jungkook’s dealings with women. Here, physical closeness serves to steady Shelby rather than to secure sex.

Cassiopée Smith then approaches Shelby and encourages her to drink a fluorescent red cherry-flavored vodka shot, presenting it as a way to relax. Shelby laughs and drinks it. When Cassiopée returns with a tray of more brightly colored shots, Jungkook watches with growing concern and prepares to intervene. Namjoon Kim reassures him that Shelby is allowed to enjoy herself and points out that there is a room available if she needs to rest. Jungkook goes to the kitchen with Namjoon, drinks whisky, and continues watching Shelby. For a time, she appears more at ease, smiling and dancing with Cassiopée; the improvement, however, does not mean she is sober or able to consent to sex.

The Intervention

As Shelby drinks throughout the evening, another person warns Jungkook that she may soon collapse and recommends taking her to Namjoon’s room. Jungkook finishes his whisky and goes to her. She smiles at him, nearly throws herself into his arms, and he catches and carries her upstairs. In the room, she grips his collar and kisses him. He responds to the unexpected kiss, but when her hands move from his shoulders toward his belt, he recognizes that the encounter is moving beyond a kiss and stops it. He breaks away and restrains her hands.

Shelby protests when he withdraws. Jungkook explains that he does not want her to do something she might regret the next morning. He admits that he desires her, but insists that they should move at her pace and that sex is out of the question while she is not herself. His decision is not a rejection of Shelby or a denial of their attraction. It is a refusal to mistake her drunken initiative for reliable consent. The distinction matters especially because her request for closeness earlier in the evening had been met with patient, comforting contact rather than treated as permission for anything further.

Care After the Party

The immediate aftermath confirms that Jungkook’s intervention is part of a broader response to Shelby’s condition. She suddenly gets up and runs to the bathroom to vomit. Jungkook follows and gently rubs her back. He tells her he is going to fetch water and something to eat, then returns to find her rinsing her mouth. She answers his quiet check-in with a nod, and they go back to the bedroom.

On the bed, Shelby drains a glass of water and eats several biscuits from a packet Jungkook gives her, relieved to have something in her stomach. He removes his shoes and shirt and offers her the black shirt to sleep in. When she gets up to change, he turns toward the window, giving her privacy rather than watching her undress. She changes into his shirt and gets under the covers. Jungkook then removes his jeans, joins her, puts an arm around her waist, and rests his face against her neck. The scene ends in shared bed space and physical comfort, not in the sexual encounter he has just declined to pursue.

Significance

The episode develops a pattern visible elsewhere in their interactions: Shelby can need reassurance and touch, but touch must remain responsive to her boundaries and state. During an earlier panic episode, she recoiled when Cassiopée reached for her shoulders; on another occasion, Jungkook stayed beside her while she cried. Those contrasts make his attentiveness at the party more specific than a general claim that he is protective. He reads the change from welcome closeness to an intoxicated sexual advance as a reason to pause, then continues caring for Shelby without using her vulnerability to press for intimacy.

The scene also makes consent an action rather than a declaration. Jungkook’s attraction is explicit, yet it does not override his judgment that Shelby is too drunk to choose freely. His refusal preserves the possibility of intimacy on a different occasion, when she can participate as herself. By helping her drink water, eat, change in privacy, and sleep safely, he turns restraint into care and gives their growing relationship a measure of trust that desire alone could not provide.
