Industrial Canal

The Industrial Canal is a body of filthy, treacle-like water on the outskirts of the city, near a railway station. It is the site where Alex and his droogs, after a night of ultra-violence, dispose of the Durango 95 they had stolen earlier. The car runs out of fuel just outside the city, and the gang, feeling a hate and murder mood, decide to push it into the canal rather than leave it to be picked up by the police. They all four tolchock the car to the edge of the water, and with one good push, it splashes in and sinks with a loud plesk. The water is described as being like treacle mixed with human waste, and the gang has to dash back to avoid the filth splashing onto their clothes. The disposal of the car in the Industrial Canal marks the end of their night's activities and the beginning of their return to the city center via the nearby train station. The canal thus serves as a dumping ground for the evidence of their crimes, a final act of destruction before they head home.
