Ethan Montgomery

Ethan Montgomery is Hannah’s mate and part of the family history CJ seeks when she asks to meet relatives connected to her by blood. His importance in these passages lies less in direct interaction than in the way a name found in public records opens a path from CJ’s estrangement from family to a visit with Hannah at the farm.

Identity and Family Position

Ethan is named alongside Hannah Montgomery in public records that Trent consults while helping CJ trace her relatives. The shared surname and Hannah’s identification as Ethan’s mate place him within the family unit CJ hopes to know. The passages do not establish further details about his life or show him speaking directly.

The Search for Relatives

CJ’s interest in Ethan and Hannah follows a confrontation with Gloria. When Gloria refuses to have anything to do with the family, CJ objects that she is related to them by blood and wants to learn who she comes from. Trent turns that wish into a practical plan: he uses public records to find Ethan and Hannah Montgomery, then calls to say CJ wants to visit.

That search gives Ethan a consequential, if indirect, role in CJ’s effort to recover a connection to her paternal relatives. He is one of the names that makes the family traceable, and the call arranges a meeting rather than leaving CJ’s desire at the level of argument.

The Visit to Hannah

At the farm, CJ and Trent arrive with Max. Max recognizes Hannah by her scent and bounds into her lap; Hannah laughs as he licks her face. The scene establishes a warm welcome from Hannah, while Ethan remains part of the family connection that brought CJ there. CJ spends much of her time walking and talking with Hannah, who says she never gave up hope that this day would come. CJ accepts being called Clarity, the name Hannah uses before correcting herself.

The visit lasts more than a week, though CJ and Trent do not stay at the farm permanently. Through the public-record search and the reunion with Hannah, Ethan’s name marks the widening of CJ’s family world: a previously rejected connection becomes a real visit and an opportunity to know where she comes from.
