Belissa Norwood
Along for the RideBelissa Norwood is a socially assertive figure whose suspicion of flirtation first erupts into a public confrontation, while her later encounter with Jake reveals that moving on from their relationship is not emotionally simple. Her appearances frame jealousy not as a settled bond but as a shifting claim: at the party she insists that someone stay away from her boyfriend; months after her breakup with Jake, she is still hung up on him even as she announces a new relationship.
Appearance and Introduction
Belissa emerges from a glass door onto a lower deck, accompanied by two girls who had been dancing with her: a redhead in a black dress and a shorter blonde. Auden has already noticed her on the dance floor as Miss Red Lipstick, a vivid detail that gives her entrance an immediate visual presence. Belissa plants herself in Maggie and Auden’s path and asks what has happened and who Auden is.
The encounter unsettles Auden, who experiences a cold sweat as Belissa and her friends look directly at her. Maggie releases Auden’s arm and tries to defuse the moment, but Belissa directs her attention toward the perceived offense rather than treating the situation as a misunderstanding that can be dismissed quickly.
Confrontation and Boundaries
Belissa says she saw how the man was talking to the other girl and points to his smile as evidence. Leah challenges the implication that smiling is itself forbidden, while Maggie calls what happened an honest mistake and says they are leaving. Belissa does not accept that response as sufficient: she steps closer to Auden, jabs a finger against her chest, and warns her to stay away from Belissa’s boyfriend.
Her warning invokes the setting as well as the relationship. Belissa emphasizes that Auden is under her roof, then orders the group off her property. The scene presents her as willing to assert control over who belongs in the space and who may approach the man she considers hers. Auden answers that she understands after Maggie nods urgently, and the confrontation ends with Belissa repeating the demand to leave.
Relationship with Jake
A later conversation establishes that Belissa and Jake have been broken up for months. Despite the separation, Wallace says she has remained hung up on him. That night, she comes to the shop to tell Jake in person that she has a new boyfriend, a man from the U who is spending the summer tending bar at the Cadillac; she says she does not want Jake to hear the news from someone else.
The visit makes her earlier possessiveness more complicated in retrospect. Belissa has begun another relationship, yet her choice to deliver the news directly to Jake, alongside Wallace’s report that she remains attached to him, suggests that the breakup has not ended the emotional connection cleanly. The evidence offers no account of what Belissa or Jake does after the conversation, leaving the tension between her new relationship and her lingering attachment unresolved.
