Bigfoot

Along for the Ride

Bigfoot is an urban-legend reference that turns a recurring rumor about Eli into an image of something elusive. In the available scenes, the creature is never seen; its significance lies in how the story’s characters invoke the idea of a sighting and how Auden follows that hint into the night.

The Rumor

Leah says that the rumor goes around every week, while Auden notes that this time she heard it from Adam. When Auden asks who heard it from Eli, Maggie gives no answer. The silence makes the supposed sighting sound less like confirmed news than a story repeatedly passed along without a reliable source. Auden compares it to a Bigfoot sighting and calls it an urban legend.

Esther observes that it has been over a year and wonders whether Eli will eventually return. Leah answers that Abe was Eli’s best friend and that the two were close. In this exchange, Bigfoot is not evidence of a supernatural creature: it is the comparison the group uses for a long-awaited, hard-to-confirm possibility.

The Late-Night Search

Later, at 12:15, Auden sits with her coffee and weighs the all-night diner against another loop around Colby. She eventually drives in the direction the others have gone, explaining that she is not necessarily looking for Bigfoot, but for something. The qualification keeps the rumor in play while making clear that her immediate aim is broader than finding a creature.

Following the bikes leads Auden to the jump park, where bleachers and two large lights overlook jumps and ramps made from logs and sand. Riders periodically rise into view above the jumps and disappear again. The scene does not resolve the Bigfoot rumor with a sighting; instead, it turns the rumor into a prompt for Auden’s own nocturnal search and brings her to a place of visible, physical activity.
