Sahaqiel–Selfia alliance

Awakening the Angel System: Apocalypse: A LitRPG Progression Fantasy

The Sahaqiel–Selfia alliance is a covert partnership between the angel Sahaqiel and Queen Selfia Cordelica, formed to oppose the forces surrounding the Infinity Machine and to contain the danger posed by Jill’s transformation into a Khloros. Its decisive feature is the alliance’s double burden: Sahaqiel and Selfia must coordinate military action and the possible repair of a failing world-machine, while withholding information from Jack because his attachment to his sister could prevent the necessary intervention. Their cooperation therefore becomes both a means of saving lives and a source of profound personal injury.

Formation Through Secrecy

The alliance takes shape around knowledge that Selfia cannot safely reveal to Jack. After Lydia died obtaining intelligence, Selfia learned, or at least confirmed, that Jill’s location was connected to the Khloros attacks on Selfian troops. She consulted Sahaqiel as soon as they entered the palace, and the two women used Jack’s house arrest as time to prepare a contingency plan. Jack’s confinement, which had already made him feel like a prisoner after his marriage to Selfia and coronation as king, thus served a hidden operational purpose: it kept him from acting before the women understood the threat and could decide how to respond.

Selfia later explained that she had considered killing Jill before Jack could meet her, specifically to spare the siblings the suffering of a confrontation. This motive clarifies the alliance’s moral logic. Selfia’s secrecy was not simply political maneuvering or an attempt to preserve authority; she believed that Jack, because Jill was family, could not do what the crisis required. The plan treated concealment as a form of protection, but it also transformed the person being protected into the one person denied the truth. When Jack discovered that Selfia had also concealed what she knew about Lydia’s whereabouts, he concluded that the journey to the Theocracy had been wasted and that the alliance’s protective strategy had become another betrayal.

The Khloros Crisis

The alliance becomes visible in the battlefield confrontation with Jill. Selfia, operating from within her MECHFrame, recognizes that Jack is injured and exhausted and orders him to retreat while her squadron handles his sister. Jill’s Khloros form is not a conventional opponent: it has become a wolf-like beast equipped with many tentacles, and it is destroying Selfian MECHs despite being outnumbered eight to one. Selfia’s order is therefore a military calculation as well as an attempt to prevent Jack from throwing himself into an unwinnable fight.

Jack refuses to remain outside the action. He demands that Selfia’s forces pin Jill down and buy him a few minutes to close in, while warning that Jill could infect the Selfian lines if she advanced. When Selfia objects that her forces cannot simultaneously manage the Solarus, demonspawn, and Jill, Jack uses his mana to make her MECHFrame groan and commands her to comply. He insists that he has done everything she asked and that she must now do what he needs. Selfia yields, ordering her MECHFrame team to change from lethal to non-lethal tactics, though she can only hope that Jack understands what he is attempting.

The operation reaches its most painful point when Jill continues rising above the battlefield and Selfian cannons fire on both her and Jack. With little time before Jill finishes priming, Sahaqiel chooses to enact Selfia’s plan B. Speaking through Jack’s mouth, Sahaqiel apologizes and pilots his body; before Jack can stop her, she plunges his hand into Jill’s heart. With Lilith’s help, the attack pierces the veil of corruption and reaches the machine’s source, which does not resist. The action preserves the alliance’s strategic purpose, but it also exposes its cost: Sahaqiel and Selfia are willing to act through Jack, or against his immediate wishes, when they believe the larger threat leaves no alternative.

The Infinity Machine and the Larger War

Their cooperation extends beyond Jill to the structure of the catastrophe itself. Sahaqiel argues that the Infinity Machine is like a computer with finite storage and processing capacity. Across the eons, accumulated data created pressure until the machine began to falter, leaking corruptive code and producing the present crisis. Her account links the demonspawn threat to mechanical failure rather than treating it as an isolated invasion. Drawing on her experience as a vessel containing many souls and on research obtained from the High Table, she believes that the machine can be repaired as well as used to eliminate the demonspawn.

Selfia supplies the operational next step: the enemy’s destination must be located, and the Red Rook is expected to possess that information. The alliance consequently joins metaphysical knowledge to political and military intelligence. Sahaqiel explains the machine’s condition and proposes a solution; Selfia identifies the intelligence required to carry it out and manages the forces capable of acting on it. Their plan remains vulnerable to destroyed ships, deleted intelligence, and the enemy’s refusal to cooperate, but it gives the war a purpose beyond survival—repairing the system so that the disaster will not recur.

The same alliance also prepares Jack for the scale of the coming sacrifice. When he accepts that thousands may die to save millions, Selfia is genuinely taken aback: the empathetic young man marked by self-doubt and fear has become someone able to endorse a brutal calculation. Rather than treating that change as uncomplicated strength, the alliance reveals how strategic secrecy and prolonged crisis have altered the people within it. Selfia’s earlier belief that Jack could not sacrifice family is challenged, but only after the alliance has already acted without his consent.

Trust, Disclosure, and Command

Sahaqiel and Selfia occupy different positions within the alliance. Selfia commands armies, controls the political setting, and issues direct orders, while Sahaqiel possesses the angelic knowledge and intimate access to Jack’s body and consciousness. Their partnership is therefore not a simple friendship between equals; it is a coordination between political command and supernatural expertise. Selfia can block Jack’s advance with her MECHFrame and redirect her squadron, while Sahaqiel can take control of Jack when the plan reaches its final, irreversible stage.

Sahaqiel nevertheless remains emotionally accountable for the concealment. After Jill’s soul has been secured in a small, flickering orb and placed safely in a coma with Lilith’s help, Sahaqiel tells Jack that he has not lost everything and will not lose everything. She then reveals the extent of Selfia’s prior knowledge and explains that the house arrest was part of the contingency plan. Her reassurance does not erase the deception; it places compassion beside confession. Sahaqiel is both the person who helped keep Jack uninformed and the person who must tell him why that silence was chosen.

Selfia’s own language makes the alliance’s contradiction explicit. She maintains that she made the right decision because Jack could never perform the required act when family was involved, yet her decision to hide Jill’s survival and location deprived him of the ability to choose what kind of brother he would be. The alliance consequently replaces open trust with managed knowledge. Its members protect Jack by deciding what he may know, then ask him to accept the consequences of decisions made in his absence.

Final Military Function and Significance

The alliance ultimately feeds into the final collective assault. After the citadel falls, Selfia uses the megaphone of her MECHFrame to announce that the citadel has fallen and order all forces to charge. She declares that the fate of humanity is being decided and calls on civilians to rise for one final push. Jack initially stands amid the devastated landscape, while Sahaqiel tells him that the survivors are depending on them. The partnership that began as a hidden plan inside the palace thus ends in public mobilization: Selfia turns strategy into a command to the world, and Sahaqiel keeps Jack moving toward the battle.

The alliance’s narrative significance lies in this movement from private concealment to shared wartime purpose. Sahaqiel and Selfia are not merely allies against Michael or the Infinity Machine; they are co-architects of a crisis response that repeatedly forces them to choose between individual consent and collective survival. Their secrecy saves time, coordinates the response to Jill, and supports the hope of repairing the Infinity Machine. At the same time, it fractures Jack’s trust, enables action through his body, and makes love of family part of the strategic problem. The alliance therefore embodies the book’s larger tension between human attachment and systems-level necessity: its members try to preserve the future by taking control of the present, even when that control causes the very suffering they claim to prevent.
