Warded Policing

Warded Policing
Security theater
Babel protects its wealth with silver wards that maim thieves and register scholars by blood. Security presents imperial property as a sacred academic right.
Increasing attacks
Break-ins, protests, and sabotage become more frequent as public anger rises. The faculty responds by improving traps rather than examining why the tower has become a target.
The trap closes
When Hermes operations trigger updated wards, Robin is shot and the institution demonstrates that its protective magic is simply militarized violence.
Police Destruction

Police Destruction
The raid
Authorities attack the Old Library after Letitia Price reveals its existence. The police treat the hidden research center as an enemy installation.
Bodies and confiscation
The library is destroyed, its scholars are killed or captured, and its books are removed for imperial analysis. Knowledge is handled as contraband rather than as a shared human inheritance.
The surviving witness
Robin and Victoire return to observe the ruins. Their inability to bury the dead becomes a final proof that the institution they oppose has no moral restraint.
The Army at Oxford

The Army at Oxford
Encirclement
The Army enters Oxford and confronts barricades built by workers and townspeople. It hesitates because an assault would risk civilian casualties and public disorder.
Escalation
Firing begins as negotiations fail. The military’s restraint becomes a temporary performance rather than a moral limit.
The dawn threat
Letitia Price warns that the Army will storm Babel. The state is prepared to destroy its own infrastructure and kill useful scholars rather than concede authority.
