An Improvised Formation

Survivors Gather
Different Ships, One Need
After the Union attack scatters the defenders, destroyers, frigates, patrol cutters, and refugee ships gather around Blackwater. The formation has no stable staffing or ordinary chain of command.
Marcell Takes the Lead
The other captains accept Marcell’s decisions because he is willing to act and has a workable understanding of the terrain. His authority emerges through necessity before it is formally recognized.
A Name for the Survivors

Independent Command
Official Recognition
After the Promise defense, Von Braun awards Marcell a promotion and gives the force a distinct identity as Promise Independent Squadron. Ships that had fought together by circumstance now have an acknowledged structure.
A Mission Beyond Survival
The new organization is intended for operations behind enemy lines, where conventional support may be unavailable. The survival of the group becomes the beginning of a new strategy rather than the endpoint of a retreat.
An Unconventional Crew

A Small Force with Many Roles
Scarce Pilots and Specialists
Blackwater has only two pilots, an injured technician, and a limited number of experienced crew. It cannot operate like a full carrier wing, so each person must cover a wider range of responsibilities.
The Next Mission Begins
Marcell convenes the survivors to prepare for an unconventional objective. Their mismatched experience, which once seemed like a weakness, may become an advantage if the squadron learns to act as a team.
