Rocco’s Assault on Impervious

This thread follows Rocco Swift’s escort mission as it becomes a costly assault on Impervious and a test of adaptation under pressure.

Escort into the Melee

A Route Through Fire Protecting the Torpedo Flight Rocco leads his Martians alongside Wayne Wendel Wheeler’s squadron toward the Union cruiser Impervious. Their task is to keep Tharcian Panzerters away from the torpedo specialists long enough for an attack to reach the target. A Dense Screen The route is crowded with ships, missiles, and point-defense fire. Rocco’s skill clears individual obstacles, but every advance exacts a cost from the formations protecting him.

Destroyer Against Destroyer

Breaking the Screen A Coordinated Defense A Tharcian destroyer and hidden laser batteries decimate Rocco’s escort formation. The attack leaves his pilots outnumbered and his torpedo team unable to approach safely. An Improvised Weapon Rocco and the remaining pilots push a disabled destroyer into the enemy screen. The collision and resulting destruction open a passage, showing how combat skill can include using wreckage and mass rather than weapons alone.

The Cruiser’s Destruction

A Changing Attack Torpedoes Fail Wheeler’s torpedo salvo proves unreliable against Impervious, forcing the pilots to abandon their planned attack. Rocco draws enemy defenses away from the cruiser so Wheeler’s squadron can use harpoons instead. A Costly Victory The harpoons breach the hull and spread explosives inside the ship, eventually destroying the cruiser. The victory is real, but heavy Tharcian resistance and losses prevent Rocco from treating it as an uncomplicated triumph.
