Weekend
Box Set: Samsons Sterbliche Geliebte & Samson's Lovely Mortal (Deutsch·Englisch) (Scanguards Vampire) (German Edition)Weekend is a near-term marker in Delilah Sheridan’s San Francisco storyline: it promises a less demanding morning, while her investigation and the unsettled interactions around it continue. Rather than bringing the assignment to a halt, the approaching weekend becomes time she may use to finish her work.
A Workweek Still in Progress
Delilah is in San Francisco on her first business trip there. Usually a freelance forensic accountant, she conducts special audits along the East Coast and rarely strays from that route. The head office sends her to the San Francisco branch after routine statistical reviews expose irregular accounting ratios; as an outsider with no prior ties to the local staff, she is well placed to investigate. Her assignment gives the weekend a practical significance: she later reckons that a few more days of work, including the weekend, could bring her investigation to an end and allow her to leave.
The Approaching Weekend
As the hours pass, Delilah is surprised that the two men with her do not seem tired. She recalls that Samson had barely slept the previous night and had spent the day in business meetings, but decides that his rest is his own concern. When she suppresses a yawn and checks the clock, it is almost six. The thought that the next day is the weekend reassures her that nobody will need to get up especially early. The prospect offers a modest easing of the schedule, not a resolution: she remains at the computer, with her work unfinished.
Narrative Function
The weekend is presented through competing experiences of time. Delilah measures it against the audit’s remaining days and is willing to work through it to finish sooner; at the same time, the approaching day gives her permission to expect a slower morning. The contrast with the men’s apparent stamina sharpens her own fatigue. In this passage, Weekend functions less as a separate episode than as a small temporal hinge between continued professional effort and anticipated rest.
