Hornet Assassinates Terahara

Bullet Train

The Hornet’s assassination of Terahara marks the violent turning point associated with the collapse of Maiden, a powerful Tokyo underworld organization. The account identifies Terahara as its leading figure and links his death, alongside his son’s, to the fragmentation of the operation and a broader shift in the underworld.

Background

Terahara had made a fortune in Tokyo and, in doing so, created considerable disorder. His organization, Maiden, was prominent enough that its collapse would leave its operation to be divided among others. The assassination is later recalled as the moment the Hornet became known in the underworld.

The Assassination

About six years before the events in the present, the Hornet entered Terahara’s offices and killed him. The account describes the method as a poison needle used to prick a victim in the neck or fingertip. The killing established the Hornet’s reputation rapidly, though the exact identity behind that name remained uncertain: rumors held that the Hornet was actually two people working together.

Collapse and Aftermath

A separate account dates Maiden’s collapse to roughly six or seven years earlier and says that both Terahara and his son died before the operation was split up. It connects the assassination to the end of Terahara’s organization, but does not establish that the Hornet also killed Terahara’s son. In the aftermath, a man who had anticipated that the situation would turn ugly left Tokyo for Morioka. The event thus carries consequences beyond the death of one underworld leader: it precedes the division of Maiden and the dispersal of people caught in its uncertain aftermath.
