Whale

Bullet Train

Whale is a criminal specialist associated with deaths staged as suicides, whose sudden disappearance prompts speculation across the underworld. His fate remains uncertain: Wolf claims responsibility, but the account offers no confirmation that the boast is true.

Identity and Reputation

Whale is described as a specialist who kills politicians and bureaucrats and makes their deaths look like suicides. Wolf once referred to him uncertainly as the Whale or the Orca while telling Nanao about the missing assassin. The uncertainty in the name belongs to Wolf’s account; the Whale is the name under which the specialist is discussed in the underworld.

Disappearance and Rumors

Whale suddenly disappeared, and people in the criminal business traded several explanations. Some believed another criminal had killed him; others said he had died in a terrible accident. A more extravagant rumor held that a politician with a grudge had paid a high price for Whale’s body and hung it in his house as decoration. These stories conflict, and none is established as the truth.

Wolf’s Claim

Wolf told Nanao that killing Whale had been a job and claimed that he had done it. The claim sits uneasily beside Wolf’s reputation: although he presents himself as a killer capable of taking on a prominent specialist, the narration says he was not someone who would be hired for a major assignment like that. His usual work was as a bag man or roughing up girls and civilians. The gap between his boast and his standing in the business leaves Whale’s fate unresolved and makes Wolf’s story part of the underworld’s rumor rather than reliable proof.
