Cloud City

CEO's Beloved Honey Girl

Cloud City is the principal urban setting in which the Su sisters’ family life and their ties to Lu Xun, Lin Yanche, and other powerful figures take shape. The city is presented less through a map than through the people and institutions gathered within it: the Su Family Residence, a theater, business interests, and the social circles where intimacy becomes entangled with family duty and rivalry. Its importance lies in this network of connections, where a private reunion or a new engagement can reverberate through several relationships at once.

Setting and Social Character

The clearest description of Cloud City is social rather than geographical. Su Xiangwan and Su Qingrou are identified as two of the city’s most beautiful women, a distinction that gives their presence public visibility as well as personal significance. Their beauty is noticed and discussed by men around them, but the sisters’ reunion at the Su Family Residence also reveals a less public dimension: with Su Qingrou, Su Xiangwan is affectionate, obedient, and unguarded in a way that contrasts with her usual bearing. The city’s social world therefore holds both spectacle and private refuge, and the difference between the two becomes visible within a family embrace.

Cloud City’s social life is connected to work and performance. A cousin adopted by Lu Xun’s uncle comes to the city to perform, and Lu Xun arranges accommodation for her in a house near the theater. That practical arrangement locates performance among the city’s ordinary concerns while also drawing kinship into the same space: she is not a blood relative, but her family designation shapes how other people interpret her closeness to Lu Xun. The theater, the nearby house, and the family relationship form a compact example of how public work and private boundaries overlap in the city’s story.

Family Life and Private Attachments

The Su Family Residence is the setting for one of the city’s most emotionally concentrated scenes. Lu Xun drives Su Xiangwan there after seeing how excited she is, and Su Qingrou is waiting when they arrive. Su Xiangwan gets out and embraces her sister, expressing how much she likes the wedding dress. Su Qingrou’s eyes redden as she recalls having imagined that the two sisters might one day wear wedding dresses together. The dress makes the sisters’ intimacy tangible, but it also carries the sorrow of a shared future that has not come to pass as imagined. Lu Xun remains in the car and hears their exchange; the scene lets him observe a tenderness in Su Xiangwan that is different from what he usually sees.

The city’s domestic relationships are not insulated from romantic suspicion. Su Xiangwan’s concern about Lu Xun’s adopted cousin turns on the distinction between a named family relationship and blood kinship. Lu Xun explains that the woman is his cousin and that he provided a place near the theater while she was performing; Su Xiangwan, however, objects that he should have told her directly. Her comparison to an earlier problem involving Song Yuner shows that the dispute belongs to a recurring pattern of withheld or belated explanations. In this setting, kinship terms may explain a connection, but they do not automatically settle the question of trust.

Business, Rivalry, and the City’s Wider Network

Cloud City’s family and romantic dramas run alongside corporate negotiation. Su Xiangwan warns Su Qingrou to think carefully before cooperating with Lin Clan Enterprise, because seeing less of Lin Yanche would be better for her. Su Qingrou acknowledges the risk but also recognizes the attraction of a valuable opportunity placed within reach. The exchange makes the business decision more than a simple commercial calculation: cooperation could bring advantage while reopening contact with a man from whom Su Qingrou is trying to keep her distance. The city’s business world thus supplies a practical route back into a fraught personal relationship.

Lu Xun’s dealings with Lin Yanche likewise show how business interests can become instruments of private conflict. Lin Yanche assumes Lu Xun is seeking the East District land, but Lu Xun says his real condition concerns Su Xiangwan: Lin Yanche must not interfere in their relationship. The land serves as leverage in a contest whose immediate object is emotional separation or protection, not merely property. Su Xiangwan understands that Lu Xun is doing this for her and recognizes that he is willing to contend with Lin Yanche on her behalf. In this episode, the city’s commercial stakes and its intimate loyalties are deliberately made difficult to separate.

Connections Beyond the City

Cloud City’s relationships extend beyond its immediate domestic and commercial settings. Su Qingrou’s engagement to Jin Zhengnan reaches Lu Xun through a call from Lin Yanche, and Lu Xun interprets the news as a deliberate attempt by Su Qingrou to strike at Lin Yanche’s vulnerability. The engagement therefore registers not only as a change in Su Qingrou’s romantic life but also as pressure within the history between her and Lin Yanche. News travels across the network before the people involved can meet face to face, making information itself a force in the conflict.

The wider story also carries Cloud City’s relationships into journeys and encounters elsewhere. Lu Xun and Lin Yanche fly to Yan City, where Chu Fei’s men are already waiting at the airport; their arrival makes the men’s suspicions intelligible and brings a distant power struggle into view. Chu Fei later describes his lack of blood kinship with a woman he desires and tells Lu Xun that he prefers the pursuit to possession. Although such encounters are not established as taking place in Cloud City, they reveal how the city-centered web of family labels, desire, and rivalry travels with its characters. Cloud City consequently functions as more than a backdrop: it is the home ground from which personal and business ties radiate, intersect, and remain consequential even when the characters leave.
