Lin Yanche
CEO's Beloved Honey GirlLin Yanche is defined by the way personal attachments and contests for power repeatedly converge around him. He can appear in a private embrace with Su Qingrou, threaten her with harm to Jin Zhengnan when she tries to leave, and become the object of a commercial bargain designed to keep him from interfering in Lu Xun’s marriage. His story also carries a deliberate contrast: the man who exercises such control later arrives unshaven and markedly thin, a change witnessed without an explanation.
Identity and Introduction
Lin Yanche enters these episodes less through a full account of his background than through his effects on the people around him. At one moment he is standing behind Su Xiangwan and Lu Xun, listening as they discuss a European honeymoon planned for the following week. He asks whether Lu has really set aside business worth tens of billions for the trip. The question makes the honeymoon more than a private plan: it places the scale of Lu’s sacrifice under scrutiny and shows Lin watching the couple’s decisions closely.
A different introduction comes through a sudden, intimate scene. Su Xiangwan and Lu Xun turn a corner and see Su Qingrou held tightly by a man who is kissing her passionately. Once they recognize him, they are stunned: it is Lin. The scene makes his connection to Su Qingrou visible before the story explains its terms. His presence is not merely rumored or recalled; it is caught in a physical moment that immediately unsettles the people who see it.
Su Qingrou and the Breakdown of Intimacy
Su Qingrou eventually tells Lin that their relationship should end. Her words are calm and decisive, and the scene gives her the initiative: she states the boundary rather than asking him to set one. Lin asks why, but when she rises to leave, he grabs her arm and threatens that Jin Zhengnan will never get out of the hospital if she takes even half a step beyond the manor. The threat makes clear that Lin is willing to use another person’s vulnerability to prevent Su Qingrou from leaving him.
Su Qingrou protests that Jin has nothing to do with their dispute and is only her friend. Lin answers with suspicion, invoking the fact that she and Jin have lived under the same roof and implying that their closeness has gone further. He also insists that he does not find her dirty, turning her defense of her loyalty into another reason to insult and accuse her. The conflict is therefore not simply a separation: her attempt to leave is met with physical restraint, jealousy, and a threat against someone she cares about.
The story later gives Su Xiangwan a painful glimpse of what this entanglement has become. She sees Su Qingrou weeping silently, with kiss marks of varying depth on her body, and then finds a picture of Lin passionately embracing Song Yuner. The image’s timestamp matches the time that has just passed. The juxtaposition puts Su Qingrou’s visible distress beside evidence of Lin’s embrace with another woman, but the episode does not establish the full circumstances of the photograph. It does, however, sharpen the contrast between the intimacy Lin claims or enforces and the uncertainty and hurt surrounding his relationships.
Lu Xun, Leverage, and Rivalry
Lin’s connection to Lu Xun is marked by suspicion and strategic pressure as well as personal rivalry. When Song Yuner has left with her luggage, Lin tells Lu that he knew Lu would drive her away and had been fairly sure when it would happen. Lu immediately questions what Lin means and accuses him of following him with an ulterior plan. Lin, in turn, scorns Lu for letting Song leave despite knowing what would happen. Their exchange suggests that both men read one another’s actions as moves in a contest, and that Lin has been observing Lu’s decisions closely.
That contest becomes explicit over the Eastern District land. Lin asks Lu whether the land is his target for the year, while Lu recognizes that Lin is not interested in the plot for its own sake and asks what conditions he wants. Lu then sets his price: Lin must not interfere in his affairs with Su Xiangwan. The demand recalls an earlier boundary Lu had tried to establish if Lin wanted Su Xiangwan to leave him. For Lu, the land is consequently not the real stake; it is bargaining power with which to protect his marriage from Lin’s involvement. Su Xiangwan realizes that Lu is doing this for her, and that the commercial confrontation is an expression of personal allegiance.
Lin also becomes part of the emotional pressure surrounding Su Qingrou’s proposed engagement to Jin Zhengnan. When Lu learns that the two may hold a small engagement ceremony, principally for the benefit of their companies, he has just spoken with Lin. Lu interprets Su Qingrou’s timing as deliberate, as if the engagement were aimed at the vulnerability Lin represents. The episode does not provide Lin’s own response to the news, but it shows that his relationship with Su Qingrou remains consequential even when he is not present in her conversation: the possibility of her commitment to Jin is understood through its capacity to wound him.
Separation, Alliances, and Reappearance
The episodes place Lin within a wider network of conflict beyond the manor and the land negotiation. One night, Lu Xun and Lin fly directly to Yan City, where Chu Fei’s men are already waiting at the airport as if they had calculated the time of their arrival. Lu has brought many people, and the appearance of Chu Fei’s men resolves the travelers’ doubts about what they are facing. The scene establishes Lin as Lu’s companion on a dangerous journey and as part of an alliance confronting Chu Fei, though it does not specify what Lin personally does during the airport encounter.
His eventual return is presented through a stark alteration in appearance. A black truck drives into the villa carrying Chu Fei and Lu Xun, with Lin the last to get out. Su Xiangwan recognizes him and feels herself close to losing control. He is unshaven and unkempt, and he has become extremely thin. The narration supplies no explanation for his condition in this moment, so his appearance functions as evidence of change without resolving its cause. It is a sharp counter-image to the earlier Lin who watched others, pressed for advantage, and used threats to hold a relationship in place.
Narrative Role and Significance
Lin’s importance lies in the way the story makes affection, jealousy, and power inseparable. His relationship with Su Qingrou is shown through both a passionate kiss and a breakup attempt met by restraint and a threat against Jin. His rivalry with Lu Xun likewise shifts between personal suspicion and business negotiation: the Eastern District land becomes a means of regulating his access to Lu’s marriage. These scenes do not reduce every motive to a single explanation, but repeatedly show intimate relationships being tested through control over other people and resources.
The contrast between his methods and his later appearance leaves his trajectory deliberately unsettled. The evidence shows a man capable of imposing consequences on Su Qingrou, provoking Lu Xun, and moving alongside Lu in a confrontation with Chu Fei; it later shows him thin and disordered, prompting a strong reaction from Su Xiangwan. The reason for that change is not given in these episodes. Rather than closing his story with a clear account of recovery or defeat, the narrative makes his altered body a sign that something has changed and leaves the full meaning of that change open.
