Hua Shuo and Cheng Chuchu's On-and-Off Attraction

CEO's Beloved Honey Girl

Hua Shuo and Cheng Chuchu's On-and-Off Attraction is defined by a reunion that quickly turns into a performance of intimacy, followed by a confrontation over whether Cheng Chuchu has been encouraging another man. Their exchanges establish mutual familiarity and flirtation, but leave the status and future of their relationship unresolved.

Reunion in Cloud City

When Cheng Chuchu is still missing from a gathering, Hua Shuo receives her phone call: she is already downstairs and asks him to come out to meet her. Her arrival is conspicuous. Dressed in luxurious clothing, she walks in holding his arm and announces that she is back. The gesture gives the reunion an immediate physical ease, even as the other people present offer her a comparatively cool welcome.

Song Yuner greets Cheng Chuchu enthusiastically and asks whether she will stay this time. Cheng Chuchu does not promise that she will. Instead, she says her decision depends on someone’s performance and turns a seductive look toward Hua Shuo. Her return is thus framed not simply as a homecoming, but as a test of whether he can persuade her to remain.

Flirtation and Uncertainty

Hua Shuo answers in kind, joking that it depends on whether he has the ability to keep such a great beauty in Cloud City. The exchange makes their attraction legible through teasing rather than through a declaration or explicit commitment. Cheng Chuchu then complains to Lu Xun that he did not tell her about the marriage and failed to meet her at the airport. Lu Xun replies that Hua Shuo should at least have the chance to show off, directing attention back to the pair’s playful contest.

Cheng Chuchu continues the teasing by reproaching Hua Shuo for being so starved of female attention that he has nearly exhausted himself. He appears embarrassed and explains that he drank too much earlier, adding that Cheng Chuchu can hold her liquor exceptionally well. Her joke and his awkward explanation suggest familiarity with one another’s habits, while also leaving the precise circumstances of their drinking and their relationship unspecified. The scene repeatedly lets flirtation stand in for certainty: she hints that he must win her over, and he accepts the challenge without establishing what keeping her would mean.

Jealousy and Confrontation

The playful atmosphere does not hold. Later, Hua Shuo appears with a dark expression and accuses Cheng Chuchu of having hinted at Lin Yanche before, saying that he would not have believed it had Lin Yanche not told him. His charge that she might want all three men makes the underlying conflict plain: he sees her attention as potentially divided between himself and Lin Yanche, and treats the possibility as a personal affront.

Lu Xun rises and leaves them to settle the matter. Cheng Chuchu then sharply asks whether he arranged for Hua Shuo to come. Lu Xun answers in a way that confirms her interpretation, and departs without looking back. The scene therefore makes the reunion look less spontaneous than it first appeared: Hua Shuo’s presence has been arranged, and Cheng Chuchu recognizes Lu Xun’s involvement. The text does not explain every part of the arrangement, but it places Hua Shuo’s accusation and her question about Lu Xun’s role in the same charged encounter.

What the Relationship Establishes

Across these scenes, Cheng Chuchu and Hua Shuo move between public flirtation and suspicion. She signals that he must prove himself if he wants her to stay; he responds with charm, then later confronts her over her apparent interest in Lin Yanche. The shift gives their attraction its on-and-off quality: closeness is performed through an arm held and a teasing exchange, while insecurity surfaces as an accusation rather than a conversation about commitment.

The evidence establishes neither a settled partnership nor a final break. Cheng Chuchu’s return is conditional, Hua Shuo’s willingness to keep her is expressed jokingly, and their conflict is left in progress after Lu Xun walks away. Their relationship consequently remains a contest over attention and pursuit, with flirtation drawing them together and jealousy exposing how uncertain that closeness is.
