Lu Nianjin and Lu Shengxun's Business and Personal Rivalry

CEO's Beloved Honey Girl

Lu Nianjin and Lu Shengxun's Business and Personal Rivalry is defined by an uncommon symmetry: they are described as comparable in age, family standing, ability, and temperament, yet they come from different cities and meet as both possible collaborators and formidable opponents. Their confrontation at a special business gathering makes that balance visible. What might have remained a contest of commercial standing instead becomes personal when Lu Shengxun's protectiveness toward Su Xiangwan enters the exchange, giving Lu Nianjin a way to test him beyond the terms of business.

A rivalry built on parity

Lu Shengxun attends the gathering with Su Xiangwan, having dressed for an occasion that matters to him. The other man is not an incidental guest: Lu Shengxun has long regarded him as someone he might work alongside and as one of his strongest competitors. Their comparable age, family, ability, and character make the prospect of cooperation plausible, but those same similarities also sharpen the sense that neither can assume superiority. Their cities differ; their capacity to contend does not.

The atmosphere changes as soon as the two meet. Su Xiangwan senses the familiar pressure between them, while the conversation that follows strikes her as an unusually interesting exchange between men who seem evenly matched. The scene therefore establishes the rivalry through interaction rather than through a formal declaration: each man answers the other as an equal, and the question of who will command the encounter remains open.

Business courtesy becomes a personal test

Lu Nianjin arrives with Jun Xi, a rising entertainment figure whose stage name Su Xiangwan recognizes. During the gathering, Jun Xi appears reluctant to refuse Lu Nianjin; after she nods, he lets her go with an approving smile. Later, she turns to Lu Shengxun with a request, and the exchange brings the two men's contrasting approaches to authority into the open. Lu Shengxun holds Su Xiangwan's hand beneath the table and tells Jun Xi that his own woman does not need Lu Nianjin's attention that night. His answer turns a social request into an unmistakable boundary around Su Xiangwan.

Lu Nianjin responds by questioning the confidence behind that boundary. He asks how Lu Shengxun can be certain that Su Xiangwan would not prefer him, and warns that such tyrannical behavior could make future business difficult. The challenge works on two levels: it disputes Lu Shengxun's personal certainty while making that dispute relevant to their prospective dealings. Lu Shengxun does not soften his position to preserve the commercial opening. He says he would rather abandon the business than accept the situation, adding that the Imperial Group does not need the money involved. Lu Nianjin's expression changes, but he insists that the possibility of losing the deal does not concern him.

The cost of making the contest personal

Su Xiangwan recognizes that Lu Nianjin's strength is such that no one would dismiss the potential transaction lightly. Yet she also understands that the meeting is not simply a negotiation: the two men are showing themselves off to each other, and the encounter turns unpleasant because of a woman. That observation clarifies the scene's reversal. A gathering arranged around professional alignment becomes a contest in which commercial leverage and romantic possessiveness are placed side by side, without producing a stated business agreement.

After Lu Nianjin's car has left, Lu Shengxun personally comes to bring Su Xiangwan away. He takes her cold hands and warms them at his lips, then admits that he lost that evening and asks whether she will despise him for it. Her question identifies the practical consequence of the encounter: whether Lu Nianjin has recognized a weakness in him. Lu Shengxun answers that, if she has noticed it, Lu Nianjin must have full control of it too. The exchange shows that the loss is not merely about who appeared stronger in public; Lu Shengxun believes his rival has learned something that could matter between them.

What the encounter establishes

The rivalry is not presented as uncomplicated hostility. Lu Shengxun has regarded Lu Nianjin as a potential partner as well as a powerful opponent, and their similarities make both roles credible. At the gathering, however, the possibility of business cooperation is subordinated to a personal challenge: Lu Nianjin tests Lu Shengxun's confidence in Su Xiangwan, while Lu Shengxun accepts the risk of rejecting a deal rather than yielding ground over her. Their parity gives the confrontation its tension, because neither man can simply be treated as a lesser adversary.

The aftermath preserves that tension rather than resolving it. Lu Shengxun acknowledges a defeat and the exposure of a vulnerability, but he also tells Su Xiangwan that he will not discard her easily. The scene thus leaves the rivalry with both a commercial and an intimate edge: Lu Nianjin has proved capable of unsettling Lu Shengxun, while Lu Shengxun's response shows how quickly business competition can become entangled with the relationships he means to protect.
