Dungeon Cleared

Cinnamon Bun

Dungeon Cleared is the decisive system state that records Broccoli Bunch’s success in the Wonderland Dungeon. It is not merely a notification of combat victory: it closes the dungeon’s active sequence, confirms that its enemies and bosses have been overcome, and places Broccoli before a consequential choice about replacing the Cinnamon Bun class with Wonderlander.

Definition and Conditions

Dungeon Cleared appears after Broccoli Bunch defeats Zombie of Cheshire, the dungeon’s level-five boss. The victory is achieved at severe physical cost: immediately afterward, Broccoli collapses to the knees while cradling an injured arm and suffering intense pain in the thigh. The system nevertheless treats the defeat as complete, announcing that the Dungeon Boss has been defeated and awarding bonus experience both for overcoming an enemy above Broccoli’s level and for defeating a dungeon boss.

The cleared state follows the wider logic of the Wonderland Dungeon. At the beginning of the adventure, the system presents Broccoli with a quest declaring that a great evil has set its root in the world and asking whether the quest will be accepted. The dungeon therefore functions from the outset as a task with explicit objectives rather than as an unexplained wilderness. Its conclusion answers that summons: the state later specifies that all adversaries associated with The Wonderland Dungeon have been defeated and that all bosses have been defeated.

Completion of the Dungeon

The state is displayed in a sequence of increasingly comprehensive confirmations. First comes the announcement that the Dungeon is cleared. It is followed by the more exact declarations that every adversary within The Wonderland Dungeon has been defeated and that no boss remains undefeated. The repetition matters because it shifts the meaning of Broccoli’s victory from a single successful encounter to a total resolution of the dungeon’s hostile population and hierarchy.

The completion also connects the dungeon’s monsters to the system’s broader progression mechanics. Earlier, Broccoli’s performance against three Sentinel Ghosts of Threewells produces bonus experience because the enemies are above Broccoli’s level, and the same logic appears in the final confrontation with Zombie of Cheshire. Even the cleansing of Bonesy, whose skeletal form opens and releases a ghostly head and shoulders, is processed as an experience-granting victory over a monster above Broccoli’s level. The dungeon’s end therefore gathers together a recurring pattern: hostile supernatural beings are translated by the menu into enemies, experience, and measurable advancement, even when Broccoli’s emotional response to them is more complicated than the system’s terminology suggests.

The Evil Root and the Core

Dungeon Cleared does not erase every danger associated with the site. After the formal completion notice, Broccoli discovers the Evil Root and learns that it is too powerful to destroy directly. The quest menu instead instructs Broccoli to break the dungeon core and let the root starve. This instruction makes the dungeon’s completion dependent on a dangerous structural intervention rather than on combat alone.

The consequence is framed as a sacrifice. Once the required action is completed, the system announces that the quest is complete and declares, “The world thanks you for your sacrifice!” Broccoli responds with helpless laughter, not because the declaration is inherently amusing, but because exhaustion and adrenaline have overwhelmed ordinary emotional control. The language of the system turns a hazardous personal ordeal into a ceremonious public service, while Broccoli’s reaction exposes the bodily and psychological strain hidden beneath the polished wording of the notification.

Reward and Class Choice

The cleared state immediately produces a major progression reward. The system identifies Broccoli Bunch as a level-four Cinnamon Bun and awards the Wonderlander class. Because all class slots are already filled, the reward cannot simply be added without consequence. The menu asks whether the current class should be replaced, turning dungeon completion into a test of identity as well as a reward screen.

This choice gives the state its lasting importance. The system presents the Wonderlander class as the formal recognition attached to completing The Wonderland Dungeon, but Broccoli’s existing Cinnamon Bun class is itself the product of prior growth and survival. The reward therefore contains a tension between advancement and continuity: accepting the new class may mean abandoning the class through which Broccoli has reached the dungeon’s end. The dungeon is cleared, but the protagonist’s progression is not settled.

Systemic and Narrative Significance

Dungeon Cleared demonstrates how the book’s game-like interface converts narrative action into institutional judgment. Cleaning first becomes a class-aligned Special Action and unlocks the Cleaning skill, which the menu records at Rank F with 90 percent progress. Friendmaking later becomes a general skill after Broccoli repeats a social Special Action sufficiently often. In the same manner, the dungeon’s dangers are reorganized into completion percentages, experience bonuses, boss labels, quest updates, and class awards.

The state also exposes a contrast between mechanical success and human consequence. The system celebrates the destruction of enemies and the completion of the quest, but Broccoli’s body is wounded, exhausted, and forced to laugh through the aftermath. Later, when Broccoli tells Amaryllis that killing people was wrong after killing Titan and Rex during the rescue, Amaryllis insists that the mercenaries were kidnappers and that removing them was like taking out weeds. Her response shows that system-recognized victory and personal moral interpretation do not necessarily coincide. Dungeon Cleared belongs to the same larger pattern: the interface can identify an objective as complete, but it cannot by itself resolve what the completion has cost.

The state thus marks both an ending and a threshold. It closes the Wonderland Dungeon’s active opposition by confirming the defeat of every adversary and boss, ties the Evil Root to the destruction of the core, and grants Broccoli the Wonderlander class. At the same time, it opens the next stage of the story through a class-replacement decision and through the unresolved tension between the menu’s triumphant language and Broccoli’s vulnerable, embodied experience of victory.
