Magic Shower Head

Cinnamon Bun

The magical showerhead is a glyph-bearing stone fixture salvaged from an abandoned barracks bathroom. Initially a damaged utility that produces only weak, lukewarm water, it becomes Broccoli Bunch’s first dependable magical weapon against ghosts and a practical instrument of Cleaning. Its importance lies in this double function: the same object that restores the possibility of hygiene and prevents dehydration also turns cleansing into a form of violence capable of destroying undead enemies.

Discovery and Physical Nature

The object is first encountered as part of an old shower. A strange glyph-stone is held above the bathroom by a metal sconce, while a wall-mounted pad bears a corresponding glyph. Ordinary pressing accomplishes nothing, but exerting mental pressure activates the symbol and releases a spray of water. The result is unimpressive in force and temperature, yet it is still enough to reassure Broccoli Bunch that dehydration will not be fatal.

The shower assembly also connects the object to the abandoned room’s neglected material world. The bathroom contains rotting surroundings and a cupboard of worn cleaning supplies, including a damaged mop, moth-eaten cloth, broom, dustpan, and bucket. The showerhead therefore enters the story not as a pristine magical artifact but as a discarded piece of infrastructure whose usefulness must be recovered through attention, experimentation, and force.

Broccoli Bunch later pries the showerhead glyph from its metallic basket above the shower. The removal leaves a rusty basket and a faintly luminous stone that continues dripping water onto the floor. This act makes the object portable, but it also changes its status: no longer merely a fixture embedded in a ruined building, it becomes equipment carried by an adventurer and adapted to circumstances the original maker could not have intended.

First Weapon and Ghost Combat

The showerhead’s decisive transformation occurs when Broccoli Bunch discovers that Bonesy’s magic can affect ghosts. After Bonesy attacks a ghost by biting its face, Broccoli Bunch uses the detached showerhead as a weapon. The object strikes the ghost in the jaw, causing the apparition to waver and briefly convert its anger into pain. A subsequent sweep passes through the ghost from head to crotch; resistance gives way to nothing, and the attack destroys it.

The weapon’s effectiveness depends on the relationship between its material form and the world’s magic system. As an ordinary shower fixture, it would have little value in a fight. As a glyph-stone capable of channeling Cleaning, it can contact an incorporeal enemy and impose a cleansing effect upon it. The showerhead thus makes ghostly intangibility less absolute while giving Broccoli Bunch a weapon that remains consistent with the class’s identity rather than replacing it with conventional martial strength.

The object also becomes a gift associated with Bonesy. After another ghostly encounter, Broccoli Bunch keeps the showerhead while placing the defeated ghostly cloth and the magic wand in a haversack. The decision is practical—continued use can advance Makeshift Weapon Proficiency—but it is also relational. The salvaged implement is remembered as something Bonesy’s intervention helped make possible, tying a crude weapon to the friendship between Broccoli Bunch and Bonesy.

Cleaning as Combat Magic

The showerhead’s weaponization develops alongside Broccoli Bunch’s Cleaning Skill. Cleaning is described as the ability to clean, improving speed and quality as its rank rises, and Broccoli Bunch initially treats it as a potentially versatile practical skill. Using the showerhead, mop, and bucket, Broccoli Bunch spends substantial time scrubbing the ruined floor even though the spray consumes mana quickly. The object therefore retains its original domestic purpose while serving as training equipment for a supernatural ability.

That domestic function becomes inseparable from combat. When five ghosts approach near a church and graveyard, Broccoli Bunch uses the showerhead glyph at the end of a cord as a makeshift flail, while holding the smaller magic wand separately. A ghost grabs Broccoli Bunch’s face, and Cleaning magic is fired into it; the ghost bursts apart. The scene clarifies that the showerhead is not simply a blunt instrument with magical decoration. It is part of a broader cleansing method in which mana, touch, improvised weapon technique, and the language of purification converge.

The same pattern returns in the confrontation with the stronger wraith near the evil well. The magic wand produces only a tiny wound, so Broccoli Bunch spins the flail until it hums through the air and strikes the wraith’s hand, producing a spark and changing the creature’s screech from anger to pain. Broccoli Bunch then presses a hand to its chest and channels the command to clean, pouring mana into a patch that expands gradually across the wraith’s body. The showerhead’s earlier role as a striking tool prepares the conditions for this more direct cleansing attempt, showing how the object supports a progression from improvised impact to deliberate magical purification.

Damage, Limits, and Narrative Significance

The showerhead is powerful only within strict material and magical limits. Its water spray is weak, its mana cost is high, and its combat use exposes it to damage. During a later battle with zombies, the showerhead is warped, the stone inside is cracked, and the rope attached to it is still burning. Broccoli Bunch has defeated only one of three zombies, and the condition of the weapon records the disproportionate cost of that success.

Its deterioration gives physical form to a recurring contrast in Broccoli Bunch’s adventure. Cleaning promises order, repair, and the removal of corruption, but the implement that channels it is itself subjected to impact, fire, cracking, and deformation. The object cannot remain a transparent utility once it is forced into the role of weapon; its material presence becomes visible precisely when it begins to fail.

The magical showerhead also establishes the book’s characteristic logic of repurposing. A bathroom device from a ruined settlement becomes a flail, a source of water, a means of practicing a class skill, and a magical answer to enemies that ordinary weapons cannot easily harm. Its trajectory mirrors the Cinnamon Bun class itself: a supposedly gentle vocation defined as being pure, supportive, and friendly is made useful in a dangerous world not by abandoning cleanliness, but by discovering that cleansing can preserve life, impose order, and destroy what has been classified as an impurity.
