Rainbow

Daisy Jones & the Six

Rainbow is a Los Angeles nightlife venue that appears at moments when celebration and private feeling diverge. After The Six secure a record deal, the band gathers there to party; on another evening, Daisy Jones and Hank Allen leave Rainbow and enter the Whisky a Go Go. The venue thus marks both a collective celebration and a point along Daisy's passage into the band's orbit, while Billy Dunne's departure from the celebration gives it a quieter, more personal significance.

The Band's Celebration

The night The Six signed their deal, everyone was partying at Rainbow. Billy Dunne left the gathering and walked down the street to a pay phone. Though the band had achieved a long-sought professional goal, he felt empty because the success meant little to him unless he could share it with Camila Dunne. He called her, told her he missed her and could not imagine living without her, and felt better when she answered and said she missed him too.

The contrast makes Rainbow more than a backdrop to the band's success: it is the setting Billy steps away from when public celebration cannot meet his private need. The movement from the crowded party to the pay phone turns a night of professional triumph toward intimacy and emotional reassurance.

Daisy and Hank's Visit

Daisy Jones recalls that she and Hank Allen had been out at Rainbow before they went walking. Outside the Whisky a Go Go, they encountered some of Hank's friends, and the two went inside. The account establishes a sequence between the two venues without suggesting that Rainbow and the Whisky were the same place: Rainbow is where their evening began, while the encounter outside the Whisky redirected it.

This visit places Rainbow within Daisy's nightlife and her association with Hank. Her recollection also notes that she was often drunk or high during this period and that the circumstances of sleeping with Hank were hazy to her; she describes him as someone who seemed to be around frequently, rather than someone she was sure she liked or desired. Rainbow therefore belongs to an unsettled stretch of Daisy's life, though the account does not attribute her later decision to enter the Whisky to anything that happened inside Rainbow.

Narrative Significance

The two appearances give Rainbow contrasting associations. For The Six, it is the gathering place after signing a record deal; for Billy, its party is a scene he leaves in order to reach Camila. For Daisy and Hank, it is one stop in an evening that continues at the Whisky a Go Go. These distinct uses keep the venue grounded in the characters' movements: it connects the band's public world to the separate relationships and choices unfolding around it.
