Pete

Daisy Jones & the Six

Pete’s limited but decisive appearances establish two forms of independence: he wants authority over his own musical parts, and he has already decided that a life in the band cannot continue indefinitely. His announcement that he will quit after the tour turns that private limit into a coming change for the group.

Creative Agency

During a discussion in which band members put their concerns on the table, Pete says he is taking full control of his bass lines from then on. Billy responds that he is fine with Pete writing them and adds that Pete has already been writing most of his parts for some time. The exchange presents Pete’s demand not as a sudden break with the band’s practice, but as a claim to formal ownership of work he has largely been doing already.

Decision to Leave

Over the holidays, Pete asks Jenny Manes to marry him, and she accepts. He is happy, and Eddie responds with a hug. But Pete is also anxious about telling the others, unsure how they will take the news. When Eddie assumes the concern is about getting married, Pete clarifies that he means something larger: he plans to quit the band at the end of the tour. The distinction makes the engagement and the departure separate decisions, even as they surface in the same conversation.

Relationship and Departure

The conversation takes place in the den at their parents’ house, where Pete tells Eddie directly rather than letting the news reach him through the band. Eddie initially treats marriage as ordinary and unlikely to trouble anyone; Pete’s correction reveals that the consequential news is his exit. He explains that he had said he did not want to do this forever. The decision gives a clear endpoint to his participation, while the evidence leaves his future after the tour unstated.
