Tucson Medical Center
Day of the DeadTucson Medical Center is the hospital where Brandon Walker is treated after a heart attack during the highway emergency. His arrival there turns the crash’s immediate rescue into a prolonged medical crisis: he undergoes triple-bypass surgery and later wakes in a different room, alive and recovering.
Brandon Walker’s Arrival
After Brandon’s heart stops, Brian Fellows and Arizona Department of Public Safety officer Cassie Downs revive him with the defibrillator in her patrol car. A helicopter is already at the scene to transport someone from the gravel-truck accident; after the woman in the Honda dies, it carries Brandon to Tucson Medical Center instead. The emergency’s chain of events makes the hospital the destination of an improvised rescue rather than a planned admission.
Surgery and Recovery
At Tucson Medical Center, Brandon receives triple-bypass surgery. While he is still intubated and unable to speak, Diana Ladd explains his condition and answers his written question about where he is. Her account also conveys her alarm that his doctors had discussed his hip and knee problems without warning her about his heart. In a later room, after the breathing tube has been removed, Brandon wakes to find Brian beside his bed. The hospital marks both his physical survival and his return to communication with the people close to him.
