Ding ChunQiu’s Pavilion Attack and Abduction of HuiJing

Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils

Ding Chunqiu’s pavilion attack and abduction of HuiJing turns a chance encounter into a sudden clash among Shaolin monks, the Gusu Murong household, and the Xingxiu Sect. Ding Chunqiu identifies HuiJing as the monk connected to the frost silkworm, then creates a poisoned commotion that lets him seize HuiJing and escape. The episode also reveals that You TanZhi’s palm carries a severe frost poison, making an attempted act of assistance by Feng BoE the trigger for a second emergency.

Background and Recognition

The encounter unfolds as XuanNan delivers a Shaolin invitation to the Gusu Murong family. Deng BaiChuan accepts it on behalf of the family and says that Murong Fu will attend Shaolin on the Double Ninth Festival to express his thanks and clear up misunderstandings. XuanNan wonders whether the family’s response means that Murong Fu’s household did not kill XuanBei, but that question is interrupted when You TanZhi recognizes HuiJing on a stretcher.

You TanZhi tells Ding Chunqiu that HuiJing was the person who captured the frost silkworm. Ding Chunqiu is pleased to have found its former owner, and privately considers the monk’s presence with Shaolin an obstacle. Finding HuiJing here, he judges, offers a more direct opportunity to seize him than trying to penetrate Shaolin itself. He approaches XuanNan under the pretense of being HuiJing’s friend and introduces himself as Ding Chunqiu.

The name immediately changes the atmosphere. XuanNan, XuanTong, and Deng BaiChuan, GongYe Gan, Bao BuTong, and Feng BoE recognize the notorious master of the Xingxiu Sect and become wary. Ding Chunqiu’s polished manner contrasts with the reputation that precedes him; XuanNan offers formal civility, but the group treats the meeting as dangerous rather than friendly.

The Mask and the Frost Poison

While Ding Chunqiu’s attention is fixed on HuiJing, Feng BoE hears You TanZhi’s account of his troubles and assumes Ding Chunqiu is responsible for the iron mask. Intending to help, Feng BoE takes out a dagger and offers to cut the mask away. You TanZhi knows that it is attached in a way that makes forced removal dangerous, and urgently refuses. Feng BoE nevertheless takes his wrist and begins scraping at the mask.

You TanZhi calls to his master for help, but Ding Chunqiu does not hear him. Panicked, You TanZhi strikes Feng BoE with his palm. Feng BoE falls and is left gravely affected by the blow. The other Murong retainers see You TanZhi as having repaid a well-meant intervention with violence: GongYe Gan gives Feng BoE a detoxification pill, while Deng BaiChuan and Bao BuTong move to protect Feng BoE and confront Ding Chunqiu.

Ding Chunqiu is privately pleased that his new disciple could injure a capable fighter with one palm. He dismisses Feng BoE’s attempt as meddling and treats the injury as no concern of the Gusu Murong family. But GongYe Gan sees that the pill has not helped: Feng BoE continues to deteriorate, and the cold is so strong that checking his breathing exposes GongYe Gan’s hand to it. GongYe Gan asks Ding Chunqiu for an antidote, but the poison is the frost silkworm’s deadly toxin, driven out through You TanZhi’s internal energy and palm. Ding Chunqiu has no antidote to provide.

Poisoned Escape and Abduction

Ding Chunqiu answers the demand by laughing and calling out, then flicking his sleeves. His Xingxiu disciples rush out of the pavilion as the others’ eyes are irritated by the poison powder in the sleeve. Deng BaiChuan, GongYe Gan, and Bao BuTong shield Feng BoE, while XuanNan pushes out with a palm and strikes a pillar; it breaks, bringing down part of the pavilion. In the confusion, Ding Chunqiu and You TanZhi disappear.

The escape reveals the purpose of the distraction: HuiJing has also vanished. The monks find only the empty stretcher, which has fallen over one of their number. XuanTong immediately gives chase, followed by Deng BaiChuan and Bao BuTong; XuanNan leads the remaining monks after them. The abduction converts Ding Chunqiu’s search for the frost silkworm’s former owner into an open pursuit and leaves both Shaolin and the Murong household with reason to follow.

Aftermath and Significance

The pursuit does not end the danger at the pavilion. Deng BaiChuan and Bao BuTong return, and GongYe Gan learns that Bao BuTong has also been poisoned after exchanging palms with You TanZhi. XuanTong, who likewise clashed with You TanZhi, returns in a weakened state. The poison’s effects therefore spread beyond Feng BoE: a single confrontation has endangered several people who tried to resist or pursue the attackers.

XuanNan gives out three of Shaolin’s Six Solar Energy Pills, two for Deng BaiChuan to administer and one for XuanTong. Over the time it takes to eat a meal, the three affected men gradually overcome the chill. Deng BaiChuan and GongYe Gan also use their internal energy to help Feng BoE and XuanTong drive out the poison. The treatment brings the immediate crisis under control, but HuiJing remains in Ding Chunqiu’s hands.

The scene’s reversals depend on misread intentions and divided attention. Feng BoE tries to free You TanZhi from the mask but inadvertently provokes a defensive strike; Ding Chunqiu, absorbed in finding HuiJing, fails to hear his disciple’s calls for help; and the effort to contain the palm’s effects gives Ding Chunqiu cover to escape with his actual target. The frost poison links You TanZhi’s new power to the episode’s human cost, while HuiJing’s disappearance turns the encounter into a continuing rescue pursuit.
