Feng BoE
Demi-Gods and Semi-DevilsFeng BoE, known as Gust of Wind, is the fourth younger brother among the retainers of the Murong family. His brief but consequential appearances at Shaolin reveal a fighter whose readiness to act can outlast his ability to fight: he is poisoned while trying to help You TanZhi, yet later returns to the confrontation with Ding Chunqiu despite his weakened condition.
Identity and Allegiance
Feng BoE belongs to the group of retainers serving the Murong family. When Xu Zhu presents the Shaolin invitation, Feng BoE identifies himself as a subordinate of the family and volunteers to go to Shaolin to seek instruction from its martial experts. The invitation calls on the Murong family to answer questions about the reputation of its signature technique, “Returning you with your own move”; Feng BoE treats the invitation as an occasion for direct martial testing rather than as a matter to leave to others.
His temperament is brisk and combative, but his interventions also show concern for people beyond his own household. When You TanZhi appears in an iron mask and describes his plight, Feng BoE suspects that the mask was imposed on him and offers to remove it. He does not know the danger You associates with removing it, and his impulse to help instead precipitates the injury that sidelines him.
The Shaolin Pavilion Clash
At the pavilion, Feng BoE’s attention is first drawn to the Heroes Invitation Card. After learning that Shaolin has summoned heroes for a gathering on the Double Ninth Festival, he offers to go to Shaolin himself. The exchange establishes the public stakes of the summons: the Shaolin gathering is intended to challenge the Murong family’s reputation, while Feng BoE is prepared to represent that family in person.
The immediate confrontation shifts when Feng BoE notices You TanZhi’s mask. He takes out a dagger and tries to remove it, believing he can do so without harming You. You pleads for him to stop and then calls to Ding Chunqiu for help. Ding Chunqiu is occupied with HuiJing and does not respond. As Feng BoE proceeds, You strikes him with a palm to drive him away. The blow carries exceptional force and poison, leaving Feng BoE seriously ill.
In the confusion that follows, Ding Chunqiu scatters poison and escapes with HuiJing. Feng BoE’s fellow retainers, including Deng BaiChuan, GongYe Gan, and Bao BuTong, recognize the severity of his condition and assist him. Feng BoE is thus both a victim of the pavilion’s disruption and one of the people whose condition makes the danger of You TanZhi’s poisoned palm unmistakable.
The Returning Poison
The first attempt to counteract the poison brings only temporary relief. Shaolin’s XuanNan gives Feng BoE and the others Six Solar Energy Pills, and GongYe Gan helps care for him. After treatment, the chill subsides for a time, but it returns; by dusk, repeated efforts with the pills and internal energy have not driven it away. The sequence establishes that the poison is not a simple injury that can be resolved with one dose or a brief intervention.
Feng BoE’s condition recurs as the group prepares for the next confrontation. When Li KuiLei sings a comic verse about shivering, Feng BoE suddenly rushes at him and they struggle. Deng BaiChuan quickly separates them, addressing Feng BoE as his fourth younger brother. The episode brings together his familiar impulsiveness and his physical vulnerability: the quarrel breaks out while the lingering poison has left him prone to renewed chills, and the group is already facing a powerful enemy.
Return to the Fight
The retainers and their allies shelter in a cave as they plan to confront Ding Chunqiu. Feng BoE is among those urged to stay behind because of his serious condition. He rejects the suggestion, insisting that the greater his injury, the more energy he will bring to a fight. His answer is characteristic, but it also makes clear the practical cost of his determination: his companions are trying to keep an injured fighter from worsening the danger to himself and the group.
When the cave entrance opens after Feng ASan operates its mechanism, Feng BoE emerges through the smoke before the others and calls out for Ding Chunqiu, offering to fight him. Instead, he immediately attacks a Xingxiu Sect disciple. His rapid punches and palms land repeatedly, but, weakened by the poison, he cannot knock the opponent down. XuanNan, Deng BaiChuan, Kang GuangLing, and Xue MuHua then come out of the cave, and the wider confrontation with Ding Chunqiu takes shape. Feng BoE’s attack does not settle the conflict; it marks his return to the fight even when his strength cannot match his resolve.
Narrative Role
Feng BoE’s Shaolin episodes connect the Murong family’s public martial reputation with the personal consequences of the conflict against Ding Chunqiu and the Xingxiu Sect. His willingness to accept Shaolin’s challenge establishes him as an active representative of his household, while his effort to help You TanZhi unexpectedly exposes the group to the danger of You’s poisoned palm.
The recurring poison also turns Feng BoE’s return into a test of loyalty and judgment. His allies treat his condition as a reason for caution; he treats it as no reason to withdraw. The contrast does not make his injuries disappear or his attack succeed, but it gives his role a clear shape: he repeatedly chooses participation, even when the evidence of his diminished strength is plain. The supplied episodes leave his fate unresolved as the confrontation with Ding Chunqiu begins.
