Frost poison
Demi-Gods and Semi-DevilsFrost poison is a debilitating condition caused by a cold toxin that can interrupt speech, weaken the body, and compromise a fighter’s ability to resist. Its consequences vary with exposure and the person carrying it: Bao BuTong is overcome during a tense conversation, while You TanZhi’s accumulated poison gives his otherwise limited martial skills dangerous force. The condition also reaches HuiJing’s inner organs after prolonged contact with the Frost Silkworm from Kunlun Mountain, making its treatment a pressing concern in the aftermath of battle.
Symptoms and Immediate Effects
Bao BuTong describes his frost poison as beyond Xue MuHua’s ability to treat. When Bao tries to encourage his companions to resist Ding ChunQiu, he can no longer finish speaking: the poison flares, his teeth chatter, and his words break off. His collapse into silence interrupts a moment of attempted reassurance, turning the condition from a private ailment into an immediate limitation in a dangerous gathering.
The same confrontation shows frost poison affecting other fighters. GongYe Gan and Fan BaiLing collapse and shiver after being struck by You TanZhi’s frost-poison palm. GongYe Gan’s attack lands, but the toxin’s counter-effect leaves him injured, demonstrating that a successful physical blow need not protect an opponent from the poison’s consequences.
You TanZhi and the Poisoned Palm
You TanZhi’s power comes from the combination of accumulated frost poison and unusually deep internal energy, not from advanced martial skill. Ding ChunQiu has guided him for only a few days and taught him seven or eight palm techniques; the narrative still characterizes his martial arts as weak compared with those of ordinary fighters. Yet the poison stored in his body makes his palm force formidable, so GongYe Gan is hurt when he attacks him.
The distinction between skill and effect matters in the fighting. You TanZhi is not portrayed as having mastered a broad repertoire: a small number of newly taught movements become dangerous because of what the poison adds to them. In the wider clash, he and Ding ChunQiu together help defeat the Murong family’s subordinates, Shaolin monks, and the Eight Friends of Hangu. The frost poison thus changes the balance of the encounter without erasing the difference between You TanZhi’s limited technique and the unusual force of his attacks.
Exposure and Treatment
HuiJing’s condition reveals another route by which frost poison acts. Xue MuHua asks what poisonous object had been in prolonged contact with him; HuiJing identifies the Frost Silkworm from Kunlun Mountain. Xue concludes that the toxin has penetrated deep into HuiJing’s inner organs. The evidence therefore distinguishes an enduring exposure to the creature from the immediate effects of a poisoned palm.
After Ding ChunQiu orders HuiJing brought to him, Xue treats him with acupuncture and moxibustion and gives him two crimson pills. Xue then tends to the other injured people, setting bones and treating wounds through the night until everyone has received care by dawn. The account establishes that he undertakes treatment, but does not specify whether HuiJing’s frost poison is fully cured; the outcome should not be mistaken for a confirmed recovery from the toxin.
Role in the Confrontation
Frost poison links separate vulnerabilities in the conflict: Bao BuTong’s illness prevents him from completing a call to courage, HuiJing’s long exposure has reached his organs, and You TanZhi’s poisoned body enables attacks that his martial training alone would not support. These different manifestations make the toxin more than a single weapon or symptom. It is at once an impairment borne by its victims and a source of force turned against others, shaping who can speak, fight, and require care as the confrontation unfolds.
