Fu Sigui

Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils

Fu Sigui is one of the Four Great Bodyguards who serve Duan Zhengchun, and his part in the Little Mirror Lake confrontation shows the loyalty expected of that household’s retainers. Wounded when Duan Yanqing’s formidable martial arts overwhelm the defenders, Fu nevertheless tries to return to the fight before recovering. Elsewhere, he appears as a messenger urging Xiao Feng to hurry to the lake, a role that places him at the threshold of the crisis that later unfolds there.

Identity and Service

Fu Sigui belongs to the Four Great Bodyguards of Duan Zhengchun. The available scenes identify him through his service, his concern for his lord’s safety, and his readiness to stand with the other defenders. He is named alongside Gu Ducheng as a trusted member of the group, while the minister Fan Hua and other officials also join the effort to protect Duan Zhengchun when the danger escalates.

Messenger to Little Mirror Lake

Before the confrontation, Fu meets Xiao Feng and asks him to go quickly to Little Mirror Lake. He explains that a dangerous pursuer has already passed and laments that he was unable to stop him. His urgency is practical: he asks Xiao Feng to reach the lake and report to his lord, Duan Zhengchun. When Xiao Feng asks who that lord is and what he looks like, Fu’s appeal opens a route toward the encounter without yet resolving the identities and relationships that will make it consequential.

The Little Mirror Lake Confrontation

Duan Yanqing’s superior martial skill leaves both Fu Sigui and Gu Ducheng seriously wounded. Their injuries are part of a wider emergency: Zhu Danchen initially mistakes Xiao Feng for an enemy and fails to stop him at the bluestone bridge, while Chu Wanli is caught in A'Zi’s Flexible Silk Net. After the wounded men are checked and found not to be in immediate danger, Duan Zhengchun’s officials move to protect him and confront the threat together.

Fu’s role in the defense is not confined to being rescued. Although he has not recovered from his serious injuries, he rises with Gu Ducheng and intends to fight Duan Yanqing to the end. The sequence sets the bodyguards’ loyalty against their physical condition: Fu’s resolve is clear, but his ability to act has been sharply limited by the encounter. In the ensuing struggle, Chu Wanli takes up Fu Sigui’s copper staff after A'Zi has thrown Chu’s iron fishing rod into the lake, another small sign of how the defenders’ resources are drawn into the unfolding fight.

Loyalty and Narrative Role

Fu’s appearances are brief, but they connect two stages of the Little Mirror Lake episode: first the urgent warning that sends Xiao Feng toward the lake, then the defense of Duan Zhengchun once the danger is present. The messenger’s request and the wounded guard’s attempt to stand again give his loyalty a concrete form, expressed in both service to his lord and willingness to re-enter a dangerous confrontation. The narrative does not provide further information about Fu’s life or eventual fate; his significance in these scenes rests on his place among the defenders and the contrast between his steadfastness and the injuries that prevent him from fighting at full strength.
