Zhaixingzi executes Chu Chenzi

Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils

Zhaixingzi executes Chu Chenzi in a display of authority that turns a dispute over sect secrets into a public warning. Chu Chenzi’s attempted escape and pleas for clemency fail; the punishment ends in his death, while the other Xingxiu Sect members respond with fear and appeals for mercy. Xiao Feng witnesses the episode and leaves, only to hear Zhaixingzi begin questioning another junior sister about the stolen Divine Wood King Cauldron.

Accusation and Authority

Zhaixingzi frames the confrontation as both a matter of discipline and a practical concern for the sect. He says that now they have reached the Central Plains, they have many matters to handle, and punishing Chu Chenzi for his mistakes could weaken their power. Before he finishes considering what to do, he sends blue sparks from his sleeve, making clear that the decision rests entirely with him.

He then turns to Chu Chenzi, his eighth junior martial brother, and charges him with revealing a major sect secret and putting the sect’s precious treasures at risk. By asking what punishment Chu Chenzi deserves, Zhaixingzi presents the accusation as an offense against the whole sect. Yet the exchange also shows that he, as senior martial brother, controls both the accusation and its consequences.

Attempted Escape and Execution

Chu Chenzi does not accept the judgment quietly. Aware that his martial arts are far inferior to Zhaixingzi’s, he throws six large rocks in succession, hoping that the effort to block them will give him an opportunity to escape. Zhaixingzi turns the first rock back toward him; after the sixth falls, Chu Chenzi’s attempt has failed.

Chu Chenzi then draws a dagger and tries to take his own life. Zhaixingzi stops him with a blue spark aimed at his wrist, causing him to drop it. The assembled sect members call on their senior martial brother to show mercy. Instead, Zhaixingzi uses another spark to set Chu Chenzi’s clothes and hair alight. Chu Chenzi dies after suffering, and the members’ collective appeal has not changed the outcome.

Fear Within the Sect

The execution makes Zhaixingzi’s command visible not only through his martial skill but through the response of those around him. The sect members are too frightened even to move freely, and when Zhaixingzi asks whether they think he has been cruel or that Chu Chenzi died unjustly, no one answers. His question turns their silence into a further test of obedience: even the unspoken possibility of disagreement is brought under his authority.

The episode’s violence is presented as an instrument of internal rule. Chu Chenzi’s alleged disclosure and danger to the sect’s treasures supply the stated grounds for punishment, but the public nature of the killing also warns the remaining disciples what resistance may cost. The members’ plea for mercy briefly offers a collective countervoice; their immediate silence afterward shows how completely fear suppresses it.

Xiao Feng’s Departure and the Next Accusation

Xiao Feng watches the scene with intense revulsion. He quietly leaps away, landing twenty feet off, and Zhaixingzi does not notice him. Xiao Feng is preparing to leave when Zhaixingzi turns from Chu Chenzi’s death to a new accusation: a junior sister has stolen their master’s precious cauldron and handed it to someone else, and Zhaixingzi asks what punishment she deserves.

This transition connects Chu Chenzi’s execution to a continuing struggle over the sect’s secrets and treasures. The punishment does not close the dispute; Zhaixingzi immediately applies the same inquisitorial authority to another member. For Xiao Feng, the scene is a reason to withdraw rather than intervene. For the sect, Chu Chenzi’s death leaves a stark precedent as its leader proceeds to judge the next alleged offense.
