Exorcist Falls

The red room is a chamber off the parish basement corridor that briefly becomes Jason Crowder’s intended refuge after Casey’s admission reshapes his understanding of the murders. Crowder reaches it hoping to speak with Father Patterson, but finds the room empty and the priest gone, leaving his revelation—and his grief—unshared for the moment.

Setting and Access

The room lies at the end of a long, nearly lightless corridor in the parish basement. After leaving the red room earlier, Crowder returns down that passage with his thoughts fixed on Casey’s admission and on what it means for Liz. The corridor is nearly deserted: regular employees have either gone home or joined parishioners in the sanctuary or narthex.

Crowder opens the red room’s door without stopping to close it. The scene identifies a couch on which Father Patterson had been lying earlier, but gives no further description of the room’s furnishings or appearance. Its name is not accompanied by an explanation of its color or any other distinctive architectural detail.

Crowder’s Intended Disclosure

Crowder enters the room prepared to unburden himself to Father Patterson. Casey’s admission has forced him to recognize that Casey, rather than the man Crowder had suspected, is implicated in Julia Deveroux’s murder. Crowder’s thoughts also turn to Tyler Raines, whom Danny killed because Raines could identify him. In this immediate aftermath, the red room is the place Crowder chooses to bring his revised understanding to the priest.

Absence and Narrative Function

The couch is empty, and Father Patterson is no longer there. That absence delays Crowder’s hoped-for release at the moment when he is reeling from Casey’s revelation and grieving the consequences for Liz. The room therefore marks a transition rather than a completed encounter: Crowder arrives ready to speak, but the person he seeks is absent, and his attention moves back to the danger Casey poses and the possibility that Liz will lose her son.
