Drazenko Rogare

Fire & Blood

Drazenko Rogare was a member of House Rogare and a political intermediary whose connections linked Lys with the court at Sunspear and the Iron Throne. His quiet approach to Alyn Velaryon created the opportunity to negotiate Viserys Targaryen’s return from Lys; later, his alliance with Princess Aliandra Martell helped make the Rogares a power in both Lys and Westeros.

Identity and Political Role

Drazenko was the brother of Lysandro Rogare, patriarch of a powerful Lyseni banking and trading dynasty. The account identifies Drazenko as an envoy sent by Lys to Princess Aliandra Martell’s court, and later as the architect of the alliance between Dorne and Lys. His influence therefore rested not simply on family wealth, but on his position between two courts and the political interests they shared.

The Message at Sunspear

During a Maiden’s Day feast at Sunspear, Alyn Velaryon met Drazenko, who asked for a private conversation in the yard. Drazenko leaned close and whispered a message; Alyn later said he had feared the envoy meant to kiss him. The message itself is not disclosed. What follows is clear: the next day, Alyn gave the order to sail for Lys.

The encounter offered a way to arrange the return of Prince Viserys to his brother, Aegon III. But Lysandro Rogare would not release a valuable captive without terms, so Alyn had to travel to Lys and negotiate with him. The agreement required the Iron Throne to pay 100,000 golden dragons, refrain from taking up arms against House Rogare or its interests for a hundred years, entrust the Rogare Bank with funds held by the Iron Bank of Braavos, grant lordships to three of Lysandro’s younger sons, and guarantee that Viserys’s marriage to Larra Rogare would not be set aside. Drazenko’s whispered intervention thus opened a path to Viserys’s return, while the settlement attached substantial political and financial obligations to it.

Alliance and Marriage

Drazenko’s importance grew alongside the fortunes of Lys in the Daughters’ War. When that conflict ended, Lys, Tyrosh, and Myr divided the Disputed Lands, while Dorne took control of most of the Stepstones. The arrangement benefited Dorne and Tyrosh, and Drazenko was credited as the architect of the Dornish alliance. With his ties to Sunspear and his brother Lysandro’s ties to the Iron Throne, the Rogares became princes of Lys in all but name.

Drazenko’s alliance with Dorne became a family bond when he married Princess Aliandra Martell. She named him Prince Consort and Lord of the Stepstones. His marriage joined Lyseni and Dornish power at a moment when his brother’s influence in Westeros was also expanding.

House Rogare’s Ascendancy

Drazenko’s appointment marked the apex of House Rogare’s rise. Lysandro adopted the title First Magister for Life, while people began calling him Lysandro the Magnificent. The family’s connections reached across the narrow sea: Drazenko’s marriage and lordship tied it to Dorne and the Stepstones, and Lysandro’s agreements tied it to the Iron Throne. Drazenko’s story is consequently one of influence exercised through access, alliance, and marriage. The account withholds the content of the message that first sent Alyn toward Lys, but records the larger consequence: a private exchange helped make possible Viserys’s return and formed part of the Rogares’ brief ascent to extraordinary power.
