Lamentation

Fire & Blood

Lamentation was a famed Valyrian steel sword whose brief appearance during the Seven Who Rode ended in its disappearance. Carried by Willam Royce into the fighting in Flea Bottom, it was torn from his hand after he fell and was never found again. A later account tentatively associated the sword with Syrax’s death, leaving its final use uncertain.

Identity and bearer

The sword is identified as Valyrian steel and as a celebrated weapon. Willam Royce carried it when he rode among the seven champions sent into King’s Landing after Joffrey Velaryon. Its presence among the arms of that party marks it as a distinctive possession, but the account supplies no further description of its appearance or history.

Loss in Flea Bottom

During the battle over Joffrey’s body, Willam was felled by a man who leapt from a rooftop onto his back. Lamentation was torn from his hand and carried off amid the fighting. The sword’s disappearance was lasting: it was never found again, and the account does not identify who took it or where it went.

Uncertain association with Syrax

A separate set of conflicting stories about Syrax’s death may give Lamentation a second, possible role. One version says that Ser Warrick Wheaton cut a wing from the dragon with a Valyrian steel sword, which the chronicler suggests was most likely Lamentation. This is presented as an uncertain identification among competing claims, not as an established account of the sword’s use. Its known fate is therefore clearer than its possible final deed: it vanished in Flea Bottom, while its later association with Syrax remained conjectural.
