Norvos
Fire & BloodNorvos appears in Fire & Blood as a stop on the eastern journey of Daemon Targaryen and Laena Velaryon. The account places it among the cities they visited after leaving Pentos, and records that their dragons drew onlookers there even where their welcome was restrained.
Setting and Route
After marrying Laena Velaryon, Daemon crossed the narrow sea with her on their dragons. Although some accounts claimed they flew to Valyria, the narrative says they first went to Pentos, then crossed the Disputed Lands to Old Volantis, and continued up the Rhoyne to Qohor and Norvos. Norvos thus belongs to the account’s grounded itinerary, not the more romantic story of a journey to Valyria.
The Dragonriders’ Reception
Pentos welcomed the couple warmly, in part because its rulers saw Daemon as a potential ally against the Triarchy. The account contrasts that reception with the less rapturous welcome in Qohor and Norvos, cities far from Westeros’s troubles and the Triarchy’s power. Yet political reserve did not prevent public fascination: huge crowds turned out to glimpse Vhagar and Caraxes wherever the dragonriders went.
Narrative Significance
Norvos is not described through its customs, government, or landscape; its significance lies in its place along Daemon and Laena’s route and in the contrast between cautious civic reception and popular curiosity. Their travels eventually brought them back to Pentos, where Laena learned she was pregnant. The couple then settled in a manse outside the city walls until the child’s birth, ending the journey that had included Norvos.
